Lesson Plan 4.23.

19
Objectives
 Students will better understand dynamic and rhythmic context throughout the duration of
the piece
 Students will understand the concept of rubato and correctly follow the conductor
throughout the piece
Procedure (20 minutes)
 Begin with personal introduction
 Rhythmic “warm-up”
o 16th note followed by dotted 8th – this rhythm is pervasive throughout the piece
o Play on either a concert F or concert C major scales, play the rhythm two times
before changing the note (demonstrate)
 Play mm. 33, focus on accurate rhythms (stop around 48)
 Talk about dynamics after run. How were they? Good? Bad?
o Talk for a moment about what could have been different, then try it again and
super-exaggerate them
 Move to a spot where dynamics are super important, mm 23
o This will lead to a discussion on RUBATO
 Ask if somebody can explain what rubato means, and then demonstrate at measure 23
again
 Run piece from the beginning
o THINGS TO PAY ATTENTION TO:
 Rhythmic Accuracy
 Dynamic Exaggeration
 Watch conductor for rubato
That should do it 
