Standard(s) of 2.11 The student will measure lengths, weight/mass, and liquid volume
Learning
Students will be able to…
● Understand the concept of measurement with the different materials
Objectives provided and learn how to be able to find lengths, weight/mass, and liquid
volume

I can...understand numbers on the rulers, scales and on liquid measurement tools and
Learning Target use them to measure lengths, weight/mass, and liquid volume.
Prior Knowledge How to measure with scales, how to read centimeters/inches and know the Gallon
Required man
Key Vocabulary or Centimeters, Ruler, Inches
Concepts
Necessary materials- Shapes, Rulers, scales, cups, pencils, Assessments ready and
Materials worksheets
Supplemental materials- Tape, cardboard (cut outs for students to measure)
Today we will be learning about measurement and you will be able to test out
Introduction/
different kinds of ways you can measure things with scales, rulers, and how to
Hook measure liquids with water and soda
1. First, i will let students know what the plan for today is-
Day one-
● A introduction to measurement youtube video as a start to the
measurement unit so the students can visually see what measurement
is about
● teach the students about the Gallon man and let them practice the
class before to understand measurement concepts
● Answer any questions the students have about measurement
Day two-
● I will put students in groups of 2 or 3 for the measurement lab
Instructional
(groups will be put together depending on if the class is even or odd
Activities numbered) to work on the labs
● Assign the groups to different stations and explain what each station
is before the students are allowed to start
● Allow them to test the different kinds of ways of measurement like
lengths, weight/mass, and liquid volume. I put out for them
● Allow the students to rotate out in 10 minute intervals
● Once they completed and tested out all the different stations, students
will sit down and then I will ask them questions on what they have
learned and then they will ask me questions they still have
Blind- If a student is blind, i would accommodate the lesson to have his partner(s)
explain where the materials are and where to put the ruler but i would also have pop
up dots so he can feel where everything is on the ruler so that student can participate
Accommodations in the lesson
Visually impaired- If a student is visually impaired, i would accommodate the lesson
to help that student by adjusting the fonts on the worksheets and on the lab

“Which is closer” worksheet (worksheet with of each of the different forms of

measurements and with the knowledge the students acquired, they will chose from
Closure Activity the four choices and circle the one they think is right from what they learned from
the activity)

Day one- Collect student Gallon man diagram to see if they fully understood the
Assessments concept
Day two- Quiz on measurements to see what they have learned
Gallon man diagram, Diagrams/worksheet of the measurements, Youtube video
