End of Unit: Honoring The Wife’s Tale

Honor was so important in the King Arthur’s court “that any knight so faithless to his

word shall be put to death” (Chaucer 6-8). Chaucer is known as the father of literature, people

loved him because he wrote a story they were able to relate to. In the Unknown Bride the knight

did not keep his vow and he and he should have been killed but the women and the queen liked

him which saved him. The knight had to find out what women desire in order to keep his life.

The knight marries the old lady. Honor is important and should be most valued.

The importance of honor and how it should be respected. Chaucer defines honor as the

knight not wanting to risk his life and doing what the queen asked of him. In Chaucer’s tale he

states, “The knight took his leave of the queen and the court and went hi way to find out what

women wish for most” (Chaucer 17-18). This explains honor because the knight honored the

queen and went to find out what women desire the most so his life can be saved. Chaucer defines

honor as a value that should be upheld every day and is most important. In Chaucer’s tale he

states, “A knight who dwelt at king Arthur’s court forgot his vow to guard all women and treated

one despitefully” (Chaucer 6-7). This portrays defines honor because the knight’s vow was an

important value and was supposed to be kept but he did not follow it. In conclusion, you should

always value honor and do not go against what should be done.

The important value is honor. In The Wife of Bath’s tale the importance is to be faithful

and show respect to everyone. Do not judge anyone by their looks and get to know them to see

who they are and treat everyone equally. Women should be respected by their husbands no

matter what. The reader can learn that beauty lies within the human, not just attributes.
