Lesson Idea/Topic This lesson is designed to have the children investigate the different
and seasons and learn which months are in which season. It ties in with our
Rational/Relevance: scientific writing that we are starting.
Student Profile: This lesson will be taught to all the students in the kindergarten class,
which means 24 students. These children are pretty similar in scientific
abilities. 11 students are girls, 13 students are boys. 6 of the students
are half day. With a lot of changes happening to the students in the
class we are beginning to return to normalcy.
Content Standard(s) addressed by this lesson: (Write Content Standards directly from the standard)
Science. Standard 3. Earth Science Systems. a. Identify, predict, and extend patterns based on observations and representations of
objects in the sky, daily weather, and seasonal changes.
Science. Standard 3. Earth Science Systems. 1. The sun provides heat and light to earth. d. Investigate and communicate the effect of
varying heat and light on the growth of plants through a scientific study.
Inquiry Questions:
What patterns do you notice in the seasons?
What patterns do you notice in weather?
What happens when the Sun’s light is blocked?
List of Assessments: (Write the number of the learning target associated with each assessment)
No formal ones right now, observations about who understands the season and can describe why they know what is next.
One child will be given all four seasons for their table Notice who is dominating
then all the children at that table will go sit. the conversations about
the order, and their
reasoning
I will have all the children return to the story rug. I will
ask them the guiding questions on step 6 of 6.
Closure The strategy I intend to use is: Quick review then a go noodle to prepare for math
I am using this strategy here because: This will wrap up the learning then get them
ready for their next lesson (math).
