KHYF Continuing Education
Greetings from the Krishnamacharya Healing and Yoga Foundation (KHYF), the official umbrella organization that represents the holistic yoga
tradition of Yogacarya Sri T Krishnamacharya, and networks all yoga teachers, yoga teacher trainers and yoga therapists in this lineage.

The main objectives of the KHYF are:

• Creation of an umbrella organization that will link all certified teachers and students worldwide who study and teach in the holistic teaching
tradition of T Krishnamacharya.

• Evolving a common curriculum of the highest standards that will form the basis of all KHYF Yoga educational and training programs, thus aiding
in cross-cultural recognition, exchange of resources and continuing education.

• Promotion and support of a highly skilled and interactive network of certified teachers and therapists committed to sharing Yoga with the
public as an alternate healing methodology.

• Collaboration with healing professionals from other fields, as well as development and implementation of new paradigms for enhancing human
health and well being.
3
• Development and sharing of educational resources with the public, including a simple, accessible online database for locating teachers in the
Krishnamacharya tradition.

Consistent with its mission of creating and providing high standards of professional teaching
in the areas of Yoga and Yoga Therapy, the KHYF offers Continuing Education opportunities
on a regular basis to its members.

These avenues can be pursued by its members through their own mentors, other mentors
of the KHYF, affiliate centers of the KHYF, or the KHYF directly. The KHYF plans conferences
and seminars on a regular basis to fulfill this need. This Continuing Education Seminar is one
such avenue.

INVITATION LETTER
Dear KHYF Yoga Teacher Trainers,

Greetings from the Krishnamacharya Healing & Yoga Foundation. It gives me great pleasure in welcoming you to “MANTRA RAHASYA : Secrets of
Sounds”, a continuing education seminar especially designed for KHYF Yoga Teacher Trainers.

Over the years, I have taught many students individually, both in India and abroad, who have gone on to become fine teachers and exemplary examples for
others, who learn from them. The quality of teachings from these KHYF Teachers is excellent and it continuously provides higher standards for even other
traditions to emulate. At the same time, we must not become complacent about our work, and especially our role as a student.

It is my observation that, owing to the different personalities, experiences and understanding of many students who have learnt from me individually, there
exists some differences and in some cases some gaps, in understanding of some of the fundamental concepts of our teaching. As prudent indivduals it must
be our responsibility to work to reducing these so that the quality of the teachings does not get watered down through generations.

As Yoga Teacher Trainers, we influence future generations of Yoga Teachers, and hence carry an important dharma in this living teaching tradition. I firmly
4 believe that reducing the gaps of knowledge at the level of the Yoga Teacher Trainers will organically, enhance standards among their own student - teachers.
It is the reason why a series of Continuing Education Seminars have been planned, especially designed for the KHYF Yoga Teacher Trainers. I take it as my
responsibility to help reduce the gaps, by providing this avenue for learning, and I hope that you will take it as yours to take this opportunity for learning.

The first seminar of this series was focused on Prayanama, and was a grand success. It
brought much coherence to the group of trainers. I see that another area of great interest
is mantra-s. My view is that it will become very useful to many practitioners in the future,
specially in the area of healing, and hence chose it as our next topic.

It is my strong recommendation that all KHYF Yoga Teacher Trainers will

participate in this seminar, so that our already high standards are sustained.

I look forward to welcoming you all to this seminar in England

MANTRA RAHASYA : SECRETS OF SOUNDS
Among the many tools that are used in yoga, Mantra-s held a special place for the yogis of the past, as they are the means to reach the core within
us. Mantra-s are subtle tools that engage our internal faculties, and influence change from within us. Hence, the power of mantra-s has commanded
great respect among yogi-s of the past, and is often considered one of the most important tools of Yoga Practices.

However, little is known about the principles and practice of mantra-s, especially among the yogi-s of the modern era. This could be attributed
to a few reasons, including the belief of many traditional yogi-s that not everyone was ready for mantra practice, and hence guarded them very
carefully.

Another reason is that many of these mantra-s were taught through an oral tradition, and little documentation was done concerning this topic.
However, we are fortunate to have had an extraordinary yogi in T Krishnamacharya, who not only was an expert in the field of mantra-s, but also
provided a means to understand and apply these principles for serious yoga practitioners. A synthesis of this knowledge is what will be offered
through this special seminar, which will include some of the following topics

• Definitions of Mantra-s
• Kinds, Classification & Components of Mantra-s
• Fundamental Philosophical Principles of Mantra-s 5
• Parameters to consider when initiating Mantra practice
• Conventional procedure for practicing Mantra-s
• Stages of Mantra Practice
• Applicability of Mantra practice for different purposes.
• Role of Mantras in Meditation, and its applications
• Examples of commonly used Mantra-s and how they can be practiced.
• Meaning and symbolism of commonly used Mantra-s

Who Can Participate?

The seminar is open only to KHYF Yoga Teacher Trainers, and some of the KHYF members who
are students of TKV Desikachar for more than 15 years.

Other KHYF Yoga Teachers, who have teaching experience of more than 15 years, may apply to
be placed on a waiting list, and if some spots are still open, they may be offered a space.
