“AN EXPERIENCE THAT WILL LAST A LIFETIME”

Jessa Mae B. Robles

Teaching was never my choice but after all the highs and lows that I
experienced all throughout my experience as a student teacher.
I started my journey in Banisil National High School with just theories
and strategies that I learned from the four corners of the classroom. I felt a
whirlwind of emotions, excitement, nervousness, and fear, but mostly fear. I
was scared of how my students will react in having me as their teacher. I
was assigned to teach the Grade 11 students of BNHS, some has almost the
same age as me, some even taller than me. I was intimidated fearing that
they won’t respect me.
At first I don’t really have enough confidence, but I am very grateful
for having a very supportive cooperating teacher, Ma’am Jeryll Jean L.
Saunayan. Although, we just meet for maybe once or twice a week
because of her busy schedule, she never failed to guide and inspire me in
my everyday lessons.
During the orientation, we were given the rules and guidelines that
we need to follow all throughout our stay in Banisil National High School.
Being punctual. Passing lesson plans ahead of time. Rules, that we tried so
hard to follow.
I was so nervous during the conduct of my first teaching lesson,
especially when I knew that my cooperating teacher won’t be there. But
fortunately, the students were accepting. I taught six classes a day, two
lesson plan preparations but I am glad to have survived and built
harmonious relationship with my students.
The most crucial part of the practice journey is the final
demonstration. I was one of the first student teachers to perform their demo
on the first day. I was so nervous but I am thankful for having a very
successful demo teaching. With four critics sitting at the back, my
coopearting teacher, the English department head, academic head, and
our supervising teacher and the college dean, Ma. Theresa Pelones, D.M.,
I was shaking. But all the sleepless nights were all paid off. I got wonderful
feedback from the critics, and it was indeed an experience that will last a
lifetime. I will keep all the memories with me and use these as my inspiration
and motivation in my teaching career.
