FORMING

Team gets acquainted and establishes


ground rules. People are still formal and
team members are more or less strangers.
There is a high dependence on the leader.

STORMING

Members start communicating their feelings and


view themselves as individuals, rather than a team.
They resist control and may show hostility..

NORMING

People start to feel like part of a team and


realise that they can achieve the desired
outcomes if they accept others’ viewpoints.

PERFORMING

The team works in an open and trusting


atmosphere where flexibility is key and
hierarchy is unimportant..

ADJOURNING

The team assesses their work and


recognises members contributions, they then
implement a plan for transitioning roles.
