DEFINITION

Teamwork
It is the collaborative effort of a group to achieve a common goal or to
complete a task in the most effective and efficient way. This concept is
seen within the greater framework of a team, which is a group
of interdependent individuals who work together towards a common
goal. The four key characteristics of a team include a shared goal,
interdependence, boundedness and stability, the ability to manage their
own work and internal process and operate in a bigger social system.
THERE ARE FOUR STAGES IN TEAMWORK
1. FORMING:
The stage of group development when the team
discusses its purpose, defines, and assigns tasks, establishes
timelines, and begins forming personal relationships.
2. STORMING:
The stage of group development when the team clarifies
its goals and its strategy for achieving them.
3. NORMING:
In the norming stage, consensus develops around who the
leader or leaders are, and individual member's roles.
Interpersonal differences begin to be resolved, and a sense of
cohesion and unity emerges. Team performance increases during
this stage as members learn to cooperate and begin to focus on
team goals.
4. ADJOURNING STAGE:
In the adjourning stage, most of the team's goals have
been accomplished. The emphasis is on wrapping up final tasks
and documenting the effort and results. As the workload is
diminished, individual members may be reassigned to other
teams, and the team disbands.
5. PERFORMING:
This is the fourth stage in formation of Team.High
performing teams able to function as a unit as they find way to get
the job done Smoothy and effectively without inappropriate
conflict or the need for external supervision. Team members have
become interdependent. By this time, they are motivated and
knowledgeable.

TEAMS FAILS DUE TO THE FOLLOWING REASONS

1. RELATIONSHIP
Good relationship with all the members of the
team is vital to success of any term. Lack of trust on the team members
or weak relationships between team members or weak relationships
between team members will lead to failure of team. This could be
because the members of the term are competing together against
another team/person or due to personality conflicts or may be due to
different in values.
2. POORLY DEFINED ROLES/LACK OF ROLE
The roles and responsibilities of each team
member must be clearly defined to avoid the blame game and also
to ensure that there is no ambiguity in roles and responsibilities.
When these are unclear, there will be a lot of chaos and
uncertainties which could lead to drastic failure of teams.
3. ENVIRONMENTAL INFLUENCES
This could be due to physical separation
between the team members due to which the team cannot meet
frequently, or due to lack of adequate resources or also due to
lack of recognition of the team effort.
4. PROCESS
Lack of clearly defined processes could lead to
drastic failure of the team and its efforts. The members of the
team are unaware of the update, or the decision is taken by one
or two dominant members of the team, action is taken
Without a proper plan or consultation with the other team
members. All these factors would lead to failure of a team.

5. UNDEFINED\UN CLEAR GOALS

The team does not have clearly defined goals,
the goals are not communicated to all the team members, or
the members do not participate in setting goals, which will lead
to lack of participation of the team.

6. INEFFECTIVE AND UNPRODUCTIVE TEAM

This could be due to various reasons like
poor listening skills of the team members during meetings, ego
clashes between the team members.
