You are going to see images of five cities and their landmarks. Write a
paragraph describing each city and country it belongs and the landmark shown.
Use the vocabulary from the box for the descriptions. The first one is done for
you as an example. / A continuación verá imágenes de cinco ciudades y sus
lugares representativos. Escriba un párrafo describiendo cada ciudad, el país al

New York is a big city in the


United States (North America). It
takes thousand of visitors every
year. The city has a population of
around 8 million people. There is
a lot to see and do in New York.
You can visit the Central Park, the
Metropolian museum and Time’s
Square. In the picture you can see
the Statue of Liberty, a monumet
built between 1875 and 1986. It is
93 meters tall. The statue is
located on Liberty Island in the
Hudson River.
New York (USA) – The Statue of Liberty
Rome is the capital of the Lazio region
and of Italy. It is the most populated
municipality in Italy and is the fourth
most populous city in the European
Union.

It is also the only city in the world that


has a foreign state inside it: the enclave
of the Vatican City, which is known
worldwide as the nerve center of the
Catholic Church.

The Saint Peter’s Square is one of the


most beautiful and largest squares in
the world. It is located at the foot of the
Rome (Italy) – Saint Peter’s Square Basilica of San Pedro. The construction
of the square was carried out between
1656 and 1667 by Bernini.

The most impressive of the square,


besides its size, are the 284 columns
and 88 pilasters that line the square in a
four-row portico. At the top of the
columns there are 140 statues of saints
made in 1670 by Bernini's disciples. In
the center of the square stands the
obelisk that was taken to Rome from
Egypt in 1586.
Sydney is the largest and most
populated city in Australia and Oceania,
with a population close to 4.92 million
people.

In the city stands the Opera House,


which is the 3rd most visited monument
in the world with 7.5 million visitors from
around the world. There they perform
plays, ballet, opera or musical
productions. It was officially opened in
1973 and declared a World Heritage
Site in 2007.

Sydney (Australia) – The Sydney Opera It has a radically innovative design, and
House contains five theaters, five rehearsal
studios, two main halls, four restaurants,
six bars and numerous souvenir shops.
Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland and
the second largest city in Scotland after
Glasgow. It has a total population of
492,700 inhabitants.

Edinburgh is famous for its International


Festival, the largest live performances
festival in the world.

To the south of the historic center of


Edinburgh is the Edinburgh Castle, set
in the extinct volcanic plug that is Castle
Rock. The Castle is alive with exciting
such of its time as a military fortress,
royal residence and prison of war.
Edinburgh (Scotland) – Edinburgh Castle
Though parts of it remain in military use,
the castle is now a world-famous visitor
attraction. It's also a key aspect of the
Old and New Towns of Edinburgh World
Heritage Site
Dubai is one of the seven emirates that
make up the United Arab Emirates,
whose capital is the city of the same
name.

It is located on the coast of the Persian


Gulf, in the Arabian desert. It has a total
area of 4114 km² and has a population
of 3.137 million inhabitants.

The Burj Khalifa is a skyscraper, which


is 828 meters high, which makes it the
tallest structure in history. Its designer
and creator was the architect Adrian
Dubai (United Arab Emirates) – The Burj Smith, it was officially inaugurated on
Khalifa January 4, 2010. It owes its name to the
Sheikh and president of the United Arab
Emirates, Jalifa bin Zayed Al Nahayan.
