Universal Design for Learning (UDL): The assignment will be accessible on the classroom blog. There will be a
video/ quiz at the end of the video and a written assignment.

Lesson idea implementation: The teacher will remind the students and parents before dismissal that there
will be an assignment to do before class the next day. The teacher will post her daily podcast on the blog,
giving students the directions for their flipped classroom assignment. Parents will log onto the classroom blog
with their students and access the assignments. The students will watch the short BrainPOP video on the
Thirteen Colonies. When they are finished with the video, they will take the quiz.

When students have completed this part of their assignment, they should take out their social studies
notebook and write down a few things that they learned from the video. Students will use these notes in a
teacher lead discussion in class. The next day, the teacher will lead a discussion on the thirteen colonies.
Students will be encouraged to share their thoughts on the video and anything that confused them. They will
also be encouraged to share what they found interesting.

Importance of technology: The use of technology for this project is crucial. Students will be needing to access
the classroom blog in order to finish their assignment.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: When it comes to students using the internet, it can be an issue if they
are not monitor or they are not using the internet correctly. Teachers have a duty to keep their students safe
while online at school. If the teacher does not explicitly tell the parents to monitor the students while they
are doing their assignments, students identities could be compromised, students may access a harmful site,
etc. It is important that the teacher explain the policies to the parents regarding internet safety and have the
correct documentation.

Reflective Practice: I believe that having students participate in flipped classroom activities is beneficial for
student learning. Students are introduced to the material beforehand and they then have an idea of what to
expect. It also allows students to make inquiries and become curious about what they are learning. I think to
further this lesson, students could be grouped together and asked to create their own podcasts where they
discuss the topic they are learning about. Students would be openly encouraged to share their curiosities and
thinking and knowledge with each other. The teacher could publish their podcasts on their classroom blog.
