ICATT

IMCI Computerized Adaptation

and Training Tool

To support WHO/UNICEF strategy for

Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI)
Major challenge for the implementation of IMCI

after more than 10 years... limited coverage!!!

On the other hand...
Studies show e-learning saves time and cost

• Studies indicate that e-learning can

significantly reduce training hours and
training costs comparing with standard
teaching

Hall and Le Cavalier (2000) found that IBM saved

$200 million in 1999 by converting traditional training
to e-learning.
Fletcher (1990) found that computer-based training
yielded time savings of 35-45 percent
Hall (1997) indicates a reduction in time of 20-80
percent
Additional advantages of e-learning...

• Consistency in delivery of the technical content…

• Self-pacing for slow or quick learners reduces stress and
increases satisfaction…
• Expert knowledge is communicated, but more
importantly captured, better in e-learning…
• Proof of completion and certification, essential elements
of training initiatives, can be automated…
How ICATT can be used...
Two interfaces of ICATT
Builder and
• “Open” interface - allows to
do virtually everything

• “Closed” end-user interface, which

can be used
 by a trainee for self-learning
 by a trainer for teaching
