Joyce
Joyce
he had two children with his long time partner Lona, whom he eventually married
He left Dublin at the age of 22 and he settled for some time in different cities,
like Zurich,
Paris, Rome and Trieste, where he MADE friends with ITALO SVEVO.
We must EMPHASIZE that most of his works are set in Ireland, especially in Dublin,
and we have to highlight
that he rebelled against Catholic Church
His method requires that each fact be explored under different points of view,
simultaneously.
Now we talk about the most important features of Joyces works:
He gives greater importance to the inner world of the characters, furthermore, time
for him is perceived as subjective.
Another characteristic is His task to render life objectively through Isolation and
detachment of the artist from society
Dubliners
The Dublin represented byJoyce is not fixed and static,it is the revolutionary
montage of Dublinsthrough a range of historical
juxtapositions and varied styles.
The 15 stories of the Dubliners, though set in thesame city, are not united by
their geography: each story has a singular location.
A portrait
The evocation of his town in APortrait is deeply influenced by Joyces prolonged
temporal and spatial distance; Dublin is filtered through Stephens mind.
In Ulysses, Dublin overwhelms (travolge) the reader.
