King’s College
London Online
Postgraduate Welcome Pack
Welcome to King’s
Dear Student,
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to your online course here at King’s College London.
These programmes are specially designed to provide you with a postgraduate education of
outstanding quality from a world top 20 university.
King’s is the fourth oldest university in England and based in the heart of London. We have more
than 26,000 students from nearly 140 countries, and approximately 7,000 staff members.
Today, you join a community that has included pioneers such as James Clerk Maxwell, Joseph
Lister and Rosalind Franklin, Nobel Prize winners such as Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Peter
Higgs, and creative geniuses including Thomas Hardy and Virginia Woolf.
We are enormously proud of this heritage and our strong culture of service to society. However,
we are not resting on our laurels; we are always looking to improve and develop. Last year saw
us recognised in the Research Excellence Framework as being 6th in the UK for research ‘power’
and 7th for ‘quality’. It also saw staff and students from King’s Health Partners awarded The
Guardian Prize for their work in Sierra Leone.
I hope you enjoy your time with King’s. It is my belief that you will find your study experience
rich and intellectually fulfilling. We believe the culture at King’s will help you grow as an
interesting individual with the potential to accomplish great things.
Yours sincerely,
Professor Edward Byrne AC
President & Principal, King’s College London

Interruptions of study
If you need more time off, you can apply for a formal interruption of study for a period of up to
two years. As this would involve formally suspending your studies, an interruption should not be
undertaken lightly. Please have an extensive conversation with your Student Success Advisor to
find out whether it’s right for you.
During a formal study interruption, students would maintain access to KEATS, to any previously
completed modules and to their King’s email accounts. Students are advised to keep in regular
touch with their Student Success Advisor. During an interruption, students are not permitted to
take part in any academic activities such as reassessments.
Please note
- Students that miss three consecutive modules without arranging an opt out with their Student Success
Advisor will be considered withdrawn from the course.
- According to the university’s regulation G10, students may not be registered concurrently for more
than one award within the higher education setting unless dual registration has been permitted.
