ABSTRACT
This study determined the level of implementation of curfew hours by barangay
tanods in selected urban barangays in Naga City. Descriptive-comparative method was used in describing the crime statistics and implementation of curfew hours in Naga City. It was also employed to determine the absence or existence of statistically significant difference the level of implementation of curfew hours among places and among periods. The overall implementation of curfew hours ordinance in selected urban barangays in Naga City is High. It is mostly implemented along streets, highways, sidewalks, parking lots, vacant lots and parks. However, it is observed that along places of entertainment it is least implemented. No significant differences in the level of implementation of the enforcement procedures for curfew hours ordinance among periods and among places is noted, except that in 2017, it was only in common areas in and about churches, apartment buildings, hospitals and schools where significant difference was observed. The most prevalent crimes committed by minors are property crimes particularly in places where there is presence of disadvantaged neighbourhoods. A numerical increase in the total crime volume for crimes committed by minors in 2017 was also noted as compared in 2016. The impact of implementation of curfew hours to the volume of crime committed by youth is not significant, thus, curfew hours have little or no impact in the prevention of crimes committed by minors. The implementation of curfew hours alone only limits the opportunity of minors to commit crimes. As such, it does not significantly cause the reduction of juvenile crimes.
