Call for papers

The Centre for Himalayan studies, North Bengal University, invites research papers, short notes on
research updates, book reviews for its annual research Journal, The Himalayan Miscellany: An Area
Studies Journal in Social Sciences. The Himalayan Miscellany intends to publish contributions on
theoretical and methodological issues, socio-economic, political and other related problems of
contemporary concern from multi-disciplinary perspective on the Himalayas. The prospective
contributors are requested to submit their contribution by 5th July 2019.

Please, follow the guidelines for submission provided below:

1) Word limits
 Research paper maximum 8000 words.
 Short notes for research updates maximum 3000 words.
 Book review maximum 1500 words.

2) The font
 Times New Roman
 Size 12
 Double space throughout the text (except endnotes and abstract)
 Abstract and endnote: Font size 10, single space between lines, Abstract 150 words with 4-5
keywords.

3) Name(s) of the author(s) along with affiliation and institutional address (email, telephone)
must be provided in a separate page [i.e. the piece submitted for consideration should not bear
the name of the author(s) or have any hint in the text that may disclose their identity].
4) We strongly discourage footnotes. Endnotes should be used rather sparingly and should be
done manually [i.e. not by using the “insert” option of the M.S Office]. All notes must be
listed as endnotes.
5) Language and spelling used should follow UK standards.
6) Non English local/ native terms and phrases should be italicized and used with an English
equivalent.
7) Numbers from one to nine should be spelt out while 10 and above should be in figures.
However for exact numbers such as longitude and latitude and GDP, numerical may be used.
8) Direct quotations above 40 words should be separated by using indent option.
9) Use “per cent” not the symbol % in the text but the symbol can be used in tables.
10) Use ‘twentieth century’ not ‘20th century’ and date such as “1990” should be written in
numbers.
11) Abbreviations if any should be spelt out in the first occurrence.
12) Papers must be printed on one side of the page with 1 inch margin at each side.
13) We follow APA style of referencing, non-compliance of which may cause non-consideration.
14) Deadline for submission is 5th July 2019. Soft copies only are to be submitted through E-
mail (ss3soc@gmail.com)
15) Reviewer’s comments will be communicated to the respective authors (first author, in case of
multiple authors) within 30 days of the submission. Authors are expected to respond as early
as possible (within two weeks maximum) to facilitate early publication.
