CLJ 1 - COURSE TITLE/CODE: INTRODUCTION TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The study of the five pillars of criminal justice in the Philippines – law
enforcement, the prosecution, the courts, the corrections and the community. It also covers their
respective functional relationships as well as individual roles in the administration of the justice
system in the solution of crimes.

CLJ 2- COURSE TITLE/CODE: HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATION

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This is a three (3) unit’s subject under criminal law and jurisprudence
course which deals with to the body of laws, rules, procedures, and institution designed to respect,
promote and protect the human rights at the regional, national and international level. This also
includes victim’s welfare and rights of the accused and the standard and ethical procedures
employed by the law enforcement agencies as an implementers of laws. It is also focused on the
protection of human rights and dignity as declared under Universal Human Rights, Human Security
Act and other related laws.

CLJ 3- COURSE TITLE/CODE: CRIMINAL LAW (BOOK 1)

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is primarily intended to lend substantial assistance to
Criminology students to be able to know the intricacies of Revised Penal Code. Such book consists
of 114 articles that includes the following topics: Concepts and Principles; Felonies, Circumstances
affecting criminal liability; Persons criminally liable for felonies; Penalties; Extinction of Criminal
liability and Civil liability as well as the basic concepts and important principles/doctrines of the
subject as well as the salient provisions of and jurisprudence.

CLJ 4 – COURSE TITLE/CODE: CRIMINAL LAW (BOOK 2)

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course covers thorough analyses on elements of crimes under
different titles and its amendments and applicability in the administration of justice with emphasizes
on recent principles of law, jurisprudence and special laws while recognizing the fundamental rights
of a person as provided in the Constitution, Revised Penal and other relevant statutes.

CLJ 5 - COURSE TITLE/CODE: CRIMINAL EVIDENCE

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This covers the study of evidence, its rules of presentation, admissibility,
weight and sufficiency of evidence including burden of proof and presumption as embodied in the
Rules of Court.

CLJ 6 - RSE TITLE/CODE: CRIMINAL PROCEDURE

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course provides the criminal procedure to be followed in observing
criminal prosecution. It contains an extensive procedures to follow and observe by a law enforcers. It
also provide contribution to present and future professional forensic examiners for a model and
common procedures on how expert witnesses shall execute an oath of verification, judicial affidavit,
and to testify as expert on opinion issued and duly certified examination findings being conducted, as
well on how to effectively testify in the court witness stand

CRIMINOLOGY

Crim 1 – COURSE TITLE/CODE: INTRODUCTION TO CRIMINOLOGY

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course presents an overview of the different schools of thought in
criminology; theories that explain criminal behavior; techniques for measuring the characteristics of
criminals, crime and victims; the interrelatedness of theory, policy, and practice in the criminal justice
system; and current issues and studies in criminology
Crim 2 – COURSE TITLE/CODE: THEORIES OF CRIME CAUSATION
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course describes the role of theory in crime scholarship. It surveys
the major schools of thought related to crime causation (biological, psychological and sociological)
and particular theories in crime and delinquency, places these theories in its historical context and
reviews the primary assumptions of the theories and conclusions reached from criminology research.

Crim 3- COURSE TITLE/CODE: HUMAN BEHAVIOR AND VICTIMOLOGY

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course covers the study on human behavior with emphasis on the
concept of human development and abnormal behavior. It includes strategies and approaches for
handling different kinds of abnormal behavior in relation to law enforcement and criminal
proceedings. It also includes the study of victimization, the role of community and techniques in
assisting offenders reintegration and victims recovery.

Crim 4- COURSE TITLE/CODE: PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT AND ETHICAL STANDARD

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course deals with the professional conduct and ethical standards
expected among criminologist in view of the conduct of criminological research, law enforcement
work, public safety, forensic science, criminalistics, and crime investigation. It also includes in the
professional conduct and ethical standards for court witnesses and correctional officers in dealing
with offenders in view of their welfare, development and reintegration.

Crim 5 - COURSE TITLE/CODE: JUVENILE DELINQUENCY AND JUVENILE JUSTICE

EDUCATION
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course deals with the etiology of delinquent, deviant behavior and
factors that causes juvenile delinquency; measures for deterrence and control of teenage crime;
recognize the various laws and provisions that protect the rights and welfare of children; theories of
crime and delinquency; the role of different agencies in handling child in conflict with the law;
influence of community institution; models of juvenile justice system in different perspective and its
relationship to Philippine Criminal Justice System as a whole; the study of significant cases and
create criminological research on juvenile delinquency.

Cim 6- COURSE TITLE/CODE: DISPUTE RESOLUTION

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course deals with the study of the process of dealing and resolving
conflicts/disputes resolution and crises management. It includes the art of intervention through
mediation and reconciliation of disagreements between stakeholder’s agencies. Likewise, the course
includes handling of crises that the criminal justice personnel are commonly encountered. Moreover,
the study significantly provides mechanisms on how to adopt strategies in dealing with potential and
actual crises which are being addressed by concerned agencies and authorities from law
enforcement, corrections and communities

Crim 7- COURSE TITLE/CODE: CRIMINOLOGICAL RESEARCH 1 (RESEARCH METHODS AND

STATISTICS)
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This is a three (3) units course which focuses on the conduct of
criminological research on crimes, crime causation, victims and offenders to include deviant behavior.
It encompasses the nature and concept of criminological research and the application of appropriate
statistical tools in the analysis and interpretation of research data.

Crim 8- COURSE TITLE/CODE: CRIMINOLOGICAL RESEARCH 2

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course covers the study of the research methods, designs, applicable
to the conduct of criminological research. It focuses on the conduct of qualitative and quantitative
research in criminology and criminal justice fields. The learners will be provided competencies in
identifying research topics, determining research methods, data analysis and interpretation, research
budget planning, legal, ethical and safety considerations and measures in the conduct of research,
research proposal and report presentation and research output endorsement procedures.

Law Enforcement Administration:

LEA 1- COURSE TITLE/CODE: LAW ENFORCEMENT ORGANIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course covers the organizational set-up of relevant various law
enforcement and public safety agencies, as legal mandate, functions and responsibilities, and its
functional relations, coordination and cooperation with other law enforcement and public safety
agencies.

LEA 2 - COURSE TITLE/CODE: COMPARATIVE MODELS IN POLICING

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course focusses on the policing models implemented in the different
countries. It includes the historical development of policing systems in dealing with different social
crimes. The course will examine and compare the different policing models in the world. It includes
analysis of the policing system of the international law enforcement organization.

LEA 3- COURSE TITLE/CODE: INTRODUCTION TO INDUSTRIAL SECURITY CONCEPT

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course covers the study of the concept and principles of industrial
security. It includes the role of security profession in law enforcement administration and public
safety, importance of security personnel in investigation, the concept of criminalistics in the field of
industrial security investigation and crime detection, and the principles applicable to jurisprudence of
criminal law, evidence, and criminal procedure in relation to the legal context of industrial security and
related laws.

Forensics Courses

Forensic 1 COURSE TITLE/CODE: FORENSIC PHOTOGRAPHY

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course covers the historical development, principles and processes
of photography in relation to law enforcement and criminal justice. This includes the evolution of
camera, photographic processes and personalities behind the development of modern photography,
use of forensic light sources and techniques and related laws and jurisprudence in photography.

Forensic 2 - COURSE TITLE/CODE: PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION TECHNIQUES

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course is designed to enumerate and describe the different personal
identification techniques applied in crime detection and investigation. Specifically, it focuses on
fingerprint recording, developing of latent prints and identification and classification of fingerprints for
purposes of court presentation.

Forensic 3 - COURSE TITLE/CODE: FORENSIC CHEMISTRY AND TOXICOLOGY

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course provides an overview of the major disciplines of forensic
chemistry and forensic toxicology, with examples to demonstrate their specific contributions to
identification, collection, preservation, investigation, presentation, and biological and chemical
analyses of physical evidence for the effective dispensation of justice.

Forensic 4 - COURSE TITLE/CODE: QUESTIONED DOCUMENTS EXAMINATION

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course covers the basic concepts and principles of questioned
documents examination. It particularly gives insight regarding the handwriting identification, forgery
and its execution, typewriting identification, alteration of documents, counterfeiting and the
importance or role of a questioned document expert towards the administration of justice, and the
care and preservation of evidence for court litigation.

Forensic 5- COURSE TITLE/CODE: FORENSIC BALLISTICS

COURSE DESCRIPTION: A scientific study of firearm identification with the use of laboratory
examination. The course gives emphasis on the history, important dates and personalities in the
study of ballistics, the study of firearms, ammunitions, projectiles, gunpowder and primer through the
use of the forensic ballistics laboratory equipment. It also deals with the principles of firearm
identification and preparation of reports for legal proceedings in the solution of cases involving
firearms.

Forensic 6-COURSE TITLE/CODE: LIE DETECTION TECHNIQUES

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course includes the study of lie detection techniques, focuses in the
conduct of polygraph examination, use of polygraph instrument using the standard procedures as
applied in criminal investigation, detection of crime and administration of justice.

CRIME DETECTION AND INVESTIGATION

CDI -1 COURSE TITLE/CODE: FUNDMENTALS OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course focuses on the implementation of the Rights of the Accused and
Victims Welfare. This also covers the different procedures in Crime Scene Investigation and
Police Intelligence and the application of the different Fields of Forensic Sciences or Criminalistics in
Criminal Investigation and Intelligence. Likewise, this involves the application of the principles of
Criminal Law, Evidence, and Procedures and other related laws.

CDI 2- COURSE TITLE/CODE: SPECIALIZED INVESTIGATION 1 WITH LEGAL MEDICINE

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course covers the special study of modern technique in the
investigation of crimes involving crimes against persons, property, chastity, and other related
offenses. Likewise, it focuses with the application of medical science in crime investigation with
emphasis on Human Anatomy and Physiology, the medico-legal aspects of physical injuries, death
crimes, abortion, infanticide, paternity and filiations, impotency, sterility and poisoning.

CDI 3- COURSE TITLE/CODE: SPECIALIZED CRIME INVESTIGATION 2 WITH SIMULATION ON

INTERROGATION AND INTERVIEW
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This covers the concept of human rights and victims’ welfare, the nature
of transnational and organized crimes, their attributes and categories. It also includes international
and local organized crime groups. Likewise, it focuses on Interrogation and Interview as well as the
rights of the accused during custodial investigation

CDI 4- COURSE TITLE/CODE: TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT AND ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION WITH

DEFENSIVE DRIVING
COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course covers laws and fundamentals of traffic safety education,
enforcement, engineering, techniques in vehicular and pedestrian direction and control, techniques in
the preparation of selective enforcement plans and policies for special and emergency traffic
situations; methods and procedures in the use of hand signals and electronic signals lights;
techniques in accident investigation; determination of reaction time and break-in-time, and application
of scientific aids in hit-and-run cases. Likewise, it focuses on basic concepts, principles and safety
tips on driving.

CDI 5- COURSE TITLE/CODE: TECHNICAL ENGLISH 1

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course covers the study of the concept of application of the
appropriate report writing: brevity, clarity, completeness and accuracy of facts and presentation
according to the prescribe format and style of investigative report writing structure and feasibility
studies. It includes the fundamentals and styles of different report writings and contents of police
report writing; manner of handling standards police forms and technique sequences of blotter entries.

CDI 6-
COURSE TITLE/CODE: FIRE PROTECTION AND ARSON INVESTIGATION
COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course covers the principles of fire protection and technology and its
behavior. Likewise, it focuses on fire investigation and the role of firefighters during fire suppression
and investigation, the study of Fire and Building Codes, and law on destructive arson including arson
investigation and evidence
CDI 7- COURSE TITLE/CODE: VICE, DRUG EDUCATION AND CONTROL
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course covers an overview of cybercrime, including a basic
understanding of computer technology, history of cybercrimes, nature and types of cybercrimes,
preventive measures and investigative techniques, and the applicable legal provisions. The course
covers the study of the concepts and principles of environment specifically on ecosystem and
biodiversity, various threats to their existence and its impact on humankind. It includes the study of
relevant environmental laws and jurisprudence, the detection, investigation, and gathering of
evidence in the prosecution of cases.

CDI 8- COURSE TITLE/CODE: TECHNICAL ENGLISH 2 LEGAL FORMS

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course covers the importance of police report writing, internalized the
concepts of legal forms which includes Judicial Affidavit, Affidavit of Complaint, Deposition of
Witness, Affidavit of Arrest, Application of search warrant, memorandum for preliminary investigation,
motion for reconsideration, notice of appeal and similar forms. The functions and application of
police report writing in investigative process and the application of new technology in Crime Incident
Reporting System (CIRS).

CDI 9 - COURSE TITLE/CODE: INTRODUCTION TO CYBERCRIME and ENVIRONMENTAL

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course covers an overview of cybercrime, including a basic

CORRECTIONS ADMINISTRATION:

CA 1- COURSE TITLE/CODE: INSTITUTIONAL CORRECTIONS

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course covers the study of the nature of institutional corrections both
local and international settings including pertinent laws relative to human rights and victim welfare
and various rehabilitation programs applicable to the offenders’ re-integration to the community.

CA 2- COURSE TITLE/CODE :NON INSTITUTIONAL CORRECTION

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course focuses on Presidential Decree, known as the “Probation Law
of 1976” as amended, establishing a probation system in the Philippines, its historical background,
philosophy, concepts, and operation as a new correctional system, investigation, selection and
condition of Probation, distinction between incarceration, parole, probation and other forms of
executive clemency, total involvement of probation in the administration of the Criminal Justice
System. This course also treats the study of the Act 4103, as amended otherwise known as the
Indeterminate Sentence Law that created the Board of Pardons and Parole, system of releasing and
recognizance, executive clemency and pardon.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is intended to develop an understanding and exposure in the
Psychology and Sociology of Crimes, Crime Detection and Investigation and Criminalistics, actual
operation of a police station/department or a penal institution. Fire department and Security Agencies
and such other agencies comprising the five pillars of the Criminal Justice System and the
relationship between them and in conjunction with the academic program; off campus or practicum
program in selected police agencies; actual field work, observation and practice of police tasks,
activities or operation, including patrol, traffic, crime investigation, criminalistics, performed
internships requiring observations in penal institutions, jail reformatories in DSWD, NBI, CHR,
NAPOLCOM and such other agencies related to the course/program.
