1. Is marketing always appropriate for political candidates? Why or why not?

2. Assume you are about to graduate. How would you apply marketing principles to your job
search? In what ways would you be able to create, communicate, and deliver value as a
potential employee, and what would that value be, exactly? How would you prove that you can
deliver that value?
3. Marketing benefits organizations, customers, and society. Explain how an organization like
DuPont benefits the community in which it operates as well as society at large.

1. I think that marketing is always appropriate for political candidates. Marketing for a
candidate is the means by which he or she persuades voters to vote for them. If a
candidate wants to win he or she has to “sell” his position and ideals to the public.
Marketing provides candidates and political parties with opportunities to present
themselves in the best light. A candidate can not just sit and wait to be elected. He has to
do his best to promote himself and deliver genuine value in his ideas marketed to the
community where he is being elected. The process of self marketing also involves ethical
questions. But it varies from every election campaign, that is why it can not be discussed
in general, but needs an individual approach as it happens.
2. I think that marketing is a great tool and can be applied not only to products and services,
but also to self-promotion. Marketing principles can help us in job searches. We can
create professional online profiles. For example, on LinkedIn. It would help potential
employers to find us. At the same time, it could be a good promotion of our knowledge
and expertise. Proper use of social media platforms, along with a resume website will
help us to create a strong presence online. Also, we can search for a job by attending
seminars and events, socializing with people, and making new contacts. By socializing
we will be able to promote ourselves, build a broad network and grow relationships. So
we can market ourselves both in person and online to build a personal brand.
3. DuPont articulated its commitment to being a social oriented business on its website as
follows: “We pursue sustainable, renewable, innovative, market-driven solutions to solve
some of the world’s biggest challenges, making lives better, safer, and healthier for
people everywhere.” The company predicts the increase in the world’s population by
2050 and realizes that this trend will demand more scarce resources. They find solutions
for healthier food, more advanced materials, solar energy, and better infrastructure and
transportation. Their competitive advantages in Agriculture and Nutrition, Bio-Based
Industrials, and Advanced Materials enable them to address the full scope of these
challenges better than any other company. For example, DuPont commits more than half
of its research and development dollars to ensuring that the world’s growing population
has enough to eat. The company strives to advance the nutritional content of crops, to
help farmers around the world to increase food productivity, and to find better ways to
ensure food safety. It is an essential contribution DuPont makes into a community as well
as the society at large.
