Course Competencies:

I. Identify Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance(s) with respect to actual “function” and “relationship” of part features.
II. Interpret and apply the four fits used for assembly.
III. Demonstrate bilateral, unilateral, and limit dimensions.
IV. Identify and explain the GDT characteristics.
V. Identify and explain the components of a feature control frame.
VI. Identify and explain the symbols used for GDT.
VII. Demonstrate the placement of manufacturing datum’s as related to the function and relationship of interchangeable parts.
VIII. Interpret and explain the datum reference frame theory.
IX. Interpret the various datum systems.
X. Demonstrate the principles of MMC, LMC, and RFS as related to tolerances of form, profile, orientation, run-out, and position.
XI. Identify and explain the tolerance zone shapes for the geometric characteristics.
XII. Demonstrate the ability to interpret geometrical dimensioning as it relates to technical drawings.
XIII. Demonstrate and interpret the placement of feature control frames.
XIV. Demonstrate the use of combined and composite feature control frames.
XV. Examine and interpret floating and fixed fasteners, and projected tolerance zones.
XVI. Examine and interpret virtual condition of internal and external features as it relates to gaging.
XVII. Interpret the locational requirements for non-cylindrical parts.
XVIII. Calculate IB/OB (internal/external) using RFS, MMC, and LMC concepts.
XIX. Calculate IB/OB for minimum and maximum stack-ups.
