On my local railway track there is a tunnel which is 5

miles long. A train, which was 440 yards long, entered

the tunnel at a speed of 50 miles per hour. How long did

it take for the whole of the train to pass completely

through the tunnel? [Note: there are 1760 yards in a

mile].

 The length of the train is 440 yards = 1320 feet = .25 miles + the length of the tunnel 5 miles / 50 miles
per hour = .105 x 60 minutes = 6.3 minutes 30% of 1 minute = 18 seconds so the answer is 6 minutes
and 18 seconds.

The train has to effectively travel 5.25 miles at 50 mph. Time = Dist ÷ Speed = 5.25 ÷ 50 = 0.105 hours
= 6.3 minutes = 6 minutes 18 seconds.

Three pipes, A, B, & C are attached to a tank. A & B can

LCM of 15,20 and 30 is 60. so let the capacity of tank be 60 liters.

A and B fill the tank at a rate of 3 liters per minute and 2 liters per minute. c empties the tank at a
rate of 4 liters per minute.
so if opened successfully for 1 minute each 1 liter will be filled in 3 minutes.
so 55 liters will be filled in 55 x3=165 minutes , after the 165th minute tap A and B will fill 5 liters
in 2 minutes.
so total time taken =167 minutes = 2 hours and 47 minutes

x/60 +1/20 +1/30 = 1

x + 5 = 60

x = 55

⟹ Time needed to fill the tank completely is = 55?3 + 2

( after 55 intervals of 3 minutes pipe A pipe B will take 1 minute each i.e 2 minutes) = 167 minutes.
