Yeast and Sugar Experiment

Question: How does sugar affect the yeasts metabolism?

Research: Produces Carbon Dioxide

• Yeast is a single celled fungus

• It is named after the words meaning “sugar eating fungus”
• It causes fermentation which produces alcohol

Anoop: I believe that the more sugar we have in our test tube we will have more carbon dioxide
because if we have a big amount will end up with a big amount so I think that the one with the most
sugar will have the most gas.

Adrienne: I think That the higher sugar will produce more gasses because there is more sugar so the
yeast will react.

Conclusion

Looking at our results, our original hypothesis was that the higher sugar will produce more gasses
because there is more sugar so the yeast will react. One way we know hypothesis is right is because we
had our hypothesis and we thought that more sugar would make more carbon dioxide gas, so we ended
up with the one with the most sugar having the most gas. We think this happened because there was
more sugar more gas. Another interesting that that happened was that all of them had a little gas. I think
this was because we used big balloons not small balloons. In conclusion, it turns out that number 2 had
the most gas because it had more sugar. If I were to do this again, two things I would change would be
that we would use smaller balloons.
