Experiment 1: The Fastest Enzyme Catalyst

Objective0
To study the reaction of two types of enzme catalase and invertase

Method

1. 2.

2cm3 of hydrogen peroxide is poured into 5 clean test tube 1cm3 of liver is cut and drop it into the first test tube that contain hydrogen peroxide. All change are observed and recorded. Then wooden splinter is used to test the present of oxygen. Another 3 pieces of liver of the same sizes is placed into a mortar. The liver then ground and transfered into the 2nd test tube, that contained hydrogen peroxide. All change is being observe and recorded. This reaction for ground liver is more faster than a cube of liver because grounded liver is increase in surface area. Another piece of liveris taken and put into beaker of boilling water for 6 minut, then the liver is taken back and placed into 3rd test tube. All change is observed and recorded. The experiment is carried out by using of cube of potato and ground potato to find out if they contain the enzyme catalase. The step usedare the same as step 2 and step 3. All observation isrecorded and tabulated.

QUESTIONS
1. To increase the rate of reaction, we must increase the surface area.this is because when increase the surface area, the reaction can take place in more place. In this experiment, to increase the surface area, we grind the liver and potato in order to increase the rate of reaction. Temperature can effect the catalase reaction, when temperature are increase extremely which above the optiun temperature of an enzyme, the reaction will stop because the enzyme, the reaction will stop because the enzyme is denatured.

DISCUSSION
From the experiment, test tube one and the second test tube the bubble is appeared when liver is put into hydrogen peroxide but in different rate. The first test tube the bubble formed in slow rate and the wooden splinter burns slowly compared to the second test tube which is bubble are formed in fast rate and wooden splinter burns fastly. This is because in the second test tubethere are ground liver while in the first test tube there is cube of liver. The ground liver is increase in surface of area. So that the rate of reaction also increase. In the third test tube which is not contained boiled liver is nothimg change. This is because all of the enzyme in the boiled liver have been denatured in the high temperature so no reaction can take place. In the fourth and fifth test tube is contained cube potato and ground potato respectively. The observation for fourth test tube is bubble formed in slow rate and wooden splinter is glowing for a while. This mean that, the reaction that take place are slowly and the amount of oxygen produced is not as much as ground liver. In fifth test tube the bubble are formed in fast rate compared to the fourth test tube. And the wooden splinteris glowing a bit longer. This is because the rate of reaction of ground potato is increase as the surface area is increase too.

CONCLUSION:
The temperature changed effected the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. As the temperature increase, the kinetic energy of molecule also increase. So the collision more often occur and the rate of reaction also increase. But when they also increase. But when they above opimun temperature, the enzyme are denatured.
