Epuni School
Nau mai e te whānau o te Kura Epuni,
Tēna koutou katoa,
A huge thank you to our whānau for your encouraging messages and
for joining us on the march to parliament on Wednesday last week. We
really appreicate your ongoing support through this unsettled time.
We had a great clean up Friday last week and managed to fill the skip.
Teachers and tamariki worked hard clearing the area around the Unity
garden and tennis courts. It was great having some whānau supporting
us with this.
Last week I went with a group of students to the Inter-School Cross
Country competition. I was so proud of our students who all completed
the course showing great Manawaroa – Resilience. The weather wasn’t
great but everyone was in high spirits and gave there best. I was so
proud of them all.
We also had a group of 8, Year 5/6 students who participated in the
Hutt City STEM Challenge. They were great ambassadors for our
school and had a go at every challenge.
This year 40 students are preparing to perform a fierce haka at HuttFest
(PolyFest) festival, tickets for Wednesday 3rd July concert are on sale
at the school office. It would be great to have whānau cheering our
tamariki on.
On Friday 14th July whānau are teaching us all the tikanga and history
of working with Harakeke (flax). You are welcome to join us and learn
with the students and teachers. We have amazing flax bushes to
weave with.
As part of our ongoing teaching and learning around PB4L (Postive
Behaviour for Learning) a survey has been completed with our students
and staff. This was conducted by an outside facilitor who commented
“The staff and students were very friendly, and your school certainly has
a lovely ‘feel’ to it. Well done.” Our overall score was 96.4%, which is
very high for only being in our second year of this 5 year journey. It is
fantastic to see our tamariki embracing our four school values in their
daily school life.
