1. Alliteration- Use of the same consonant at the beginning of each stressed syllable in a line
of verse. The occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of the adjacent or
closely connected words. Letters of the alphabet. Ex: Pizza Palace, Tommy’s Toys.
2. Antithesis- A person or a thing that is the direct opposite of someone or something else. A

incongous or contradictory terms are combined. Ex: Suddenly the room filled with a

of the same word and sometimes on the similar sense or sound of different words. The use
of a word which is formed or sounded alike in such a way as to juxtapose, correct or bring

Ex: 1) A chicken farmer’s favorite car is a coupe. 2) A boiled egg every morning is hard to

19. Plot – 1) The main story of a tale. 2) A plot is defined as a secret plan to achieve
something illegal or evil. 3) The definition of a plot is a marked off area that is intended
for a specific use. Ex: 1) John likes basketball. He wasn’t on a team or very good but a
coach saw his potential and decided to train him to become the best. 2) Kaithlin wants a
puppy. She goes to the pound looking for a dog who she connected with. She found one
20. Sarcasm – 1) Mocking humor or the use of irony to make a joke. 2) The making of such
remarks. 3) Their characteristic quality. Ex: 1) That’s just what I needed today!. 2) Well

21. Simile – 1) A figure of speech in which two essentially unlike things are compared. 2) A
figure of speech in which one thing is likened to another, dissimilar thing by the use of
like or as. 3) Where two unlike things are compared using like or as. Ex: 1) He is as
