Short Paper #2

Historical Foundations

Rome wasn’t built in a day. True to the quote, our Educational System was not also built
in a day. It took us years and years of trials and errors to somehow arrive at a beautiful system
which still needs a deal of polishing. Our education system transitioned from having just males
as students to accepting everyone regardless of his/her gender orientation, from learning about
survivals skills to learning about the different core competencies – reading, writing, listening,
and speaking.

I am an admirer of the historical foundations for its beauty and intricacy. But with all
things working by humans for the rest of the humanity – there are positive and negative points.

Some of the negative contributions which I would like to highlight are the following: the
exclusivity of education towards males and those who belong to the upper class and the
immediate reliance towards religious leaders as the teachers. I believe that somehow, these
negatives affected a great margin of contributors to the development of the education system.
However, the practice of these inequalities paved way to an understanding of culture and
inclusivity for people who are now catalyst in improving the educational system.

As for the positives, I’d also would like to express my gratitude towards the people
behind each periods, who did not fail to look into the essential factors which are vital in the
preparation of a competent learner. Being able to enjoy the core competencies in this age, is truly
an unvalued gift for all. Being able to work after high school is also a great reward to student and
parents who are facing constraints in pursuing further higher education.

As a witness to the 1st SHS Graduation Rites of at least 100 learners, I am happy to say
that despite all the doubts and difficulties which we may have faced before, the teachers, the
parents, and the stakeholders have made an amazing effort to produce competent students
equipped with 21st century knowledge, skills, and values. Of all the uncertainties in this world,
one is truly certain, the educational system is and will be making great historical contributions.
