Text: “Media to the Filipino Youth” by Alyssa M.

Technology is growing as rapid as ever, and the Philippines is one

of the countries under its fast-paced technological grasp. In Alyssa M.
article, “Media to the Filipino Youth she has stated that teenagers are
immensely attached to it. It has become a somewhat convenient routine,
ranging from continuously checking our phones day and night, or spend
sleepless nights using social media. The tool for communication and
self-expression that has become very popular among people of almost
every age group is social media. One of the most dominant age group
users of social media is the youths of today. The thing about social
media that appeases the majority of the crowd is its user-friendly
features.
Social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. are
providing people with the opportunity to connect with each other across
distances. Thanks to the facilities that the internet and social media
provide, this allows us to have the entire world at our fingertips. This is
why many people wonder that something with such a massive reach
must be very powerful, and this great power cannot be all good. Hence,
many people argue that just like there are two sides of a coin, the same
can be said for social media. But then again, different people have
varying opinions about the debatable topic of social media’s pros and
cons.
The article has effectively weighed in pros and cons with the
surging of technology among the Filipino youth, whereas it was stated
that media violence has been increasing and teens are prone to it. Like
technology in general, social media has both an upside and a downside.
And when it comes to the social media effects on teens, those pros and
cons are particularly significant. Media is constantly shaping the lives of
the Filipino youth. However, if it is misused and exploited, social media
becomes harmful and may have a negative influence. The article has
also indicated that we can't disagree that the media has had a significant
effect on our lives as teenagers. In the Philippines, young people are
more likely to engage in various types of media. Young people become
increasingly antisocial because of media exposure.
Despite having so many advantages, social media is also often said
to be one of the most harmful elements in society. Social media can lead
to grave consequences if not monitored. Media may have negative
nuisances; it is up to us to be responsible enough and how well informed
we are in handling it. This is a fact that educating Filipino teenagers are
a way to lessen the disadvantageous effects brought by it.
Learning Task 2 (Performance Task)
Personal Reflection
Writing has always been my passion, I started joining writing
competitions since I was in fifth grade and my specialty has always been
feature and creative writing. At the beginning of the semester, I viewed
myself as a creative writer. After studying this subject, I realized that
there is a lot more that goes into writing an essay, or a research paper,
than just creativity alone. I have learned that it is very important to be
aware of my strengths and weaknesses in my writing. Taking this class
has helped me understand the strengths and weaknesses in my writing
skills, and it has given me the opportunity to strengthen the areas in
which I was weak. An example of this is that I have become aware of
my grammar and spelling errors as the semester progressed.
I enjoy writing in a quiet atmosphere, having ample time to complete my
essay, or research paper. Finding the proper time, and the proper
atmosphere is something that I find difficult to do. Many times, as I am
sitting down to start writing, I find myself drifting away in my own
thoughts. I must really focus on what I want to be writing in order to get
started. Nonetheless, once I begin writing I can focus with ease, which is
a strength of mine.
I am not Shakespeare, Stephen King, John Grisham. It takes a lot of
time, practice, and effort to be considered a long shot of the Pulitzer
Prize. But I am going to proceed with my writing by setting more
achievable goals, building new ideas and developing new skills.
Furthermore, I will use the past compositional experience to form past
and present future composition experiences using teacher and associate
advice. When I sit down and write, I must do this in a clean, well-
organized, bright place.
I’ve always believed that writing is a beautiful yet complex process
when I start writing drafts for a novel I am working on, I never get past
outlining the plot. I lose interest in writing the body which has been my
weakness. On the other hand, people tend to gravitate and compliment
me with my writing because I make such interesting unique
introductions and end it with a lot of flare and dramatics. This skill of
mine can be a disadvantage when it comes to writing formal academic
papers, no worries though grammar and correct punctuation are a breeze
for me.

I. Introduction

In society, we are unconsciously arranged and grouped based on factors in one’s lives that decide

where we lay on a social scale. These factors include your socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity,

sex, age, religion and anything that may pertain to a privilege you hold. Social hierarchy is just

this; a ranking of individuals based on their personal factors that divide them and creates a

hierarchy. Social hierarchies are part of our everyday lives because positions we hold come

assigned with different tasks. Those tasks are infused with power, privilege and prestige. Those

factors lead to people having power, privilege and prestige over others, therefore causing a

hierarchy.

II. Background and Purpose

This concept paper aims to tackle the negative nuisances of the existing social hierarchy in

accessing inclusive good quality in education. One of the concerns regarding social justice in

education is that there are marginalized groups within society do not having equal access to the

learning and life opportunities that they deserve. The concept of social justice stresses that every

individual within society is entitled to have equal rights and opportunities. This means that an

individual from a lower-class background deserves the same opportunities as a person from a

wealthier background.

III. Project Description

Education is a major component of social class, both directly and indirectly. Directly,

individuals from higher social classes are more likely to have the means to attend more

prestigious schools, and are therefore more likely to receive higher educations. Indirectly,

individuals who benefit from such higher education are more likely to land prestigious jobs,

and in turn, higher salaries. Just as education and social class are closely intertwined,

stratification in education contributes to stratification in social class.

Upper-class parents are better able to send their children not only to exclusive private schools,

but also to public state-funded schools. Such schools are likely to be of higher quality in affluent

areas than in impoverished ones, since they are funded by property taxes within the school

district. Wealthy areas will provide more property taxes as revenue, which leads to higher quality

schools. Educational inequality is one factor that perpetuates the class divide across generations.

This project adheres to the following objectives:

 Compare and contrast the education conditions of learners in specific social classes

 Address the widening gap between social classes and its impact on inclusive education

 Provide recommendations on how to resolve the said issue

IV. Impact of the project

Inclusive systems provide a better-quality education for all children and are

instrumental in changing discriminatory attitudes. Schools provide the context

for a child’s first relationship with the world outside their families, enabling the

development of social relationships and interactions. Respect and

understanding grow when students of diverse abilities and backgrounds play,

socialize, and learn together.

Education that excludes and segregates perpetuates discrimination against

traditionally marginalized groups. When education is more inclusive, so are

concepts of civic participation, employment, and community life.
