Persuasive Speech Examples

Persuasive Speech of Fact: Is something true or not? Did something happen or not
happen in the past? Will something happen in the future. Main points 1 through 3
should be reasons to support your statement.

Example Thesis: The New York Yankees will win the World Series in 2017.
Main Point 1: The New York Yankees will win the World Series in 2017 because
they have the best relief pitchers.
MP2: The New York Yankees will win the World Series in 2017 because their
division is weak.
MP3: The New York Yankees will win the World Series in 2017 because they have
great new prospects.

Persuasive Speech of Value: Is something good or bad? Is something better or


worse? You are making a moral/value judgment about something. Main points 1
through 3 should be standards to support your statement.

Example Thesis: The New York Yankees are the best baseball franchise ever.
Main Point 1: The New York Yankees are the best baseball franchise ever because
they have won the most World Championships.
MP2: The New York Yankees are the best baseball franchise ever because they have
the most former players in the Hall of Fame.
MP3: The New York Yankees are the best baseball franchise ever because they had
the best relief pitcher ever, Mariano Rivera.

Persuasive Speech of Value: What is the best solution to a problem? Your main
points should cover the need for change (main point 1), your plan (MP2), and the
advantage of your plan (MP3)

Example Thesis: DVC should offer free parking to all full-time students.
MP1 (The Need for change): Community college students are already at an
economic disadvantage, and parking only adds to that stress.
MP2 (Your Plan): My plan would offer all students enrolled in 12 or more units
automatic free parking permits.
MP3 (Advantage of Plan): My plan is advantageous because it will encourage more
students to attend DVC while also promoting the college's master plan of supporting
students.
