Performing Arts Education and Dance Training:

School of Performing Arts at Gloucester County Institute of Technology-Dance Major
My time here as a student in the dance department, I have learned a lot of things I
didn’t have a clue about; whether that be dance or just about life in general. Studying things like
ballet, modern, jazz, improv, choreography, have prepared me for understanding the proper way
to choreograph a dance on not just myself but others as well.

Instructors:
• I have had a lot of great instructors throughout my dance career that have helped me in
different aspects of my life, some helped with personal situations, others helped with
dance related situations. However, I’ve never had a teacher that impacted my life as
much as my dance teachers here at GCIT; Mr. Taylor and Mrs. Stahl have helped me with
so much throughout high school, not just with dance but academics as well. They’ve been
very good with my accommodations that were new to me this year, they always go above
and beyond to make sure I have everything I need to succeed in whatever I need help in. I
don’t really have words that can describe how grateful I am to have had such amazing
teachers that have ended up being not just an instructor to me but a friend.

Tricia Sloan Dance Center

I have spent 13 years at Tricia Sloan Dance Center, from the time I was two until I
was 15. TSDC gave me an abundance amount of training considering I was there almost every
night for most of my life. They taught me the fundamentals of performing and what to expect in
the real world of dance. Overall, they were a big help in understanding the true meaning of
dance.
Summer Intensives:
In the summer of 2015 I attended the Rock School for one week for their ballet summer
intensive. It was a great learning experience to get a taste of what a professional dance
company consists of on a daily basis. It was much harder than I expected and pushed me out of
my comfort zone but that was the point of the classes. I have never went back or attended a
different school for something similar, but I’m glad I had a chance to have an experience like
that.
