I belong to a Jain family. My family believes in social work and are also are very religious. My
grandmother believes in religion and also helping the poor. Since childhood I have seen my
family do all sorts of religious work and helping the poor. I since childhood have been taught
how to help others and I was always taught about religion. My father works with the rotary club
and does all kinds of social work like organizing blood donation camps, organizing health
checkup camps and above all polio eradication camps. Seeing him and my family I developed a
little sense of helping the poor and doing social work. I slowly started going to the temples with
my grandmother. She started taking me to ‘ashrams’ where the needy of homes live. It’s a place
where young children who are poor live there and get education and food at very very cheap
cost or maybe free also. Slowly and gradually I developed the sense of working with my family
in doing works like giving food in the ashrams or to the poor outside the temples. With my dad
then I started attending blood donation camps and polio eradication camps. Since class 9 th class
I started organizing the blood donation camps with the rotary and basic checkup camps for free
for the poor. I started enjoying this work and wanted to do this all the time because helping the
poor and needy became my happiness. In 10th I realized a place where I’m perfectly contented
and satisfied is the place where I’m doing this kind of a work of helping others. I generally help
the rotary club to do so. I visited the old age home’s. I taught basic math’s and English to class
5th-10th in the government school adopted by the rotary foundation. I started realizing that
these places are the places where I’m perfectly satisfied as I felt happy. Helping the needy and
being with the poor and helping them became my happiness. I had many experiences with
them. With them I learned that life is never easy and you have to struggle a lot in life in order to
achieve your goals or dreams which you live for. Another experience as you say or a lesson I got
was that you should never demand anything from life. You should always be happy in what god
gives you. So being with the children of government schools and interacting with the poor’s I
learned a lot about life which my parents or any other relative might not have been able to
teach me. So I can say that a place where I’m perfectly contended is that place where I help the
others and the experiences I got from these meetings were the best and the most teaching
experiences in my life that I could have ever got from anyone.
