HOME VISIT REFLECTION 2

I felt like this home visit was very successful. I felt very comfortable being in Luke’s home

and I think that I connected really well with the family; Luke, his mom, and siblings included. As

soon as we entered the house, Luke warmed up to us right away. When we first got there,

Candice, Luke’s mom, told Haley and I that he had been telling her how excited he was to meet

us and play with us. He was not shy, and he wanted us to play with him. Luke seemed like he

was very comfortable with me, and he wanted to come and show me all of his toys. I really

enjoyed holding a conversation with Luke to see what his level of development was.

As I was doing the developmental checklist, I was trying to make it into a conversation so

that Luke’s mom was as comfortable as possible. Haley had taken Luke outside to play so it was

somewhat hard to watch Luke to see where he was at developmentally. Candice was very strait

forward with me and she was willing to tell me what Luke could and could not do. Luke has

been in the toddler labs before, so this process was nothing new to her. When Luke came back

inside he was super energetic and wanted to continue showing us his airplanes. As the visit went

on, Luke began crawling on the furniture and standing on the stools. This tells me that he is

going to be a very rambunctious and busy boy. When Candice and I discussed Luke’s goals, she

was kind of unsure about what Luke could and could not do. For his goal, we decided that we

wanted Luke to be able to label simple shapes, such as circles and squares, by the end of toddler

lab.

Going on this visit made me so excited to have Luke in our class. He is very advanced for

his age and I think that he will be a great asset and example to the other children who are in our

toddler lab.
HOME VISIT REFLECTION 3

I was really excited to meet Amelia and her mom. I will admit I was also nervous, because

I knew that Amelia only spoke Spanish. I was nervous about meeting Paulina as well, because I

didn’t know how good her English was. I was pleasantly surprised that her English was good and

she was very easy to understand. When we first got there, Amelia was very excited to see us.

Paulina, Amelia’s mom, told us that Amelia had been so excited to meet us and have us come to

her house.

I had so much fun meeting Amelia. She is such a sweet little girl and she was always

smiling the whole time that we were there. I went through all of the paperwork with Paulina and

made sure that she understood what was on it. I began to go over the developmental checklist

with Paulina. Amelia stayed in the living room the whole time we were there, so it was really

easy to see how her development was. Amelia is very well developed, and she was able to show

me a lot of things that she could do. I loved how much Amelia wanted to talk and play with

Haley and me. The hardest part about the visit was that Amelia does not know how to speak or

understand very much English, so we had to look to her mom to have her translate what we were

saying.

After seeing that she does not know much English, Paulina and I decided that her goal

should have to do with letter recognition. We decided that her goal was going to be to recognize

the first three letters of her name before the end of toddler lab.

I cannot wait to see how Amelia does and I am so excited to have her in lab. I think that

Amelia is going to be a good example to the students around her, and they will be able to help

her learn English through example.
