Due date for project - 9/6/19​ - The drawings will be turned in to me in class. You may do all of
your drawings on LINED paper. Cornell Notes will be sent over GoogleDocs by 5:00PM on the
9/6/19.

The purpose of the summer reading assignment is to help students further develop the
reading skills they have practiced during the school year. if you have questions about

one for EACH novel, with ALL chapters in the novel. Please send to my new
school email address:

● For each GoogleDoc, type your first and last name, and the name of the NOVEL.
(Example: Herbie Student 8,​ The Adventures of Robin Hood​)

For each​ SET​ of chapters, you must create a SET of CORNELL NOTES. For each set of
chapters, you will answer the FOUR QUESTIONS below. Chapter Sets are on page 3.

OPTION #2 - DRAWINGS

For each​ SET​ of chapters, you must draw two pictures and write a two or three sentence
SUMMARY Please avoid using stick figures if you can, as I will be putting up some of your
drawings in my classroom in August.

SET #1

Part I: Chapters 1-2

Choose TWO important characters and do a drawing for each one. Give me a DESCRIPTION of
each character in THREE to SEVEN sentences.

SET #2

Part I: Chapters 3-4

Choose TWO scenes in which TWO or MORE characters are having a CONVERSATION and
draw TWO comic strips. I have included two videos on drawing comic strips on my

SET #3

Part II: Chapters 5 - 7

Choose two scenes that talk about important things the characters do, also known as their
ACTIONS and draw them. Write a short summary at the bottom.

SET #4

Part III: Chapters 8-11

Choose two scenes in the novel that describe what the characters THINK or FEEL and draw
them.

Part IV: Chapters 12-16

Choose any two scenes in the chapter to draw. You must give me a SIX to SEVEN sentence
summary of each scene.

Chapter Sets

SET #1

Chapters 1 - 5

Draw the SETTING of the story and write a four to five sentences summary of the SETTING.

Draw who you think the PROTAGONIST or MAIN CHARACTERS might be. You must tell me
why you have chosen that CHARACTER as your PROTAGONIST. Remember that the
PROTAGONIST always has a PROBLEM to solve, also called the NARRATIVE CONFLICT.
Your drawing should give me an idea of what that NARRATIVE CONFLICT might be. Videos for

SET #2

Chapters 6- 10

Choose two scenes in which the PROTAGONIST makes important DECISIONS and draw them.
I will need a FOUR to FIVE sentence summary for EACH drawing at the bottom.

SET #3

Chapters 11-15

Choose two scenes in which the PROTAGONIST faces important CHALLENGES or


OBSTACLES to RESOLVE the NARRATIVE CONFLICT. I will need a four to five sentence
summary for EACH drawing at the bottom of the drawing.

SET #4

Chapters 16-20

Follow the same instructions as SET #3

SET #5

Chapters 21 -25

Choose the scene that is the most exciting scene in this section and draw the scene. This scene
will give you an idea if the character has solved their PROBLEM or RESOLVED the
NARRATIVE CONFLICT. At the BOTTOM of the picture, write a seven sentence summary.
