INTRODUCTION

The Chemin Neuf Institute (www.chemin-neuf.org) is happy to welcome students, young


professional and reviewees who want to have a community life and to grow in their faith during
their studies and reviews.

We provide them at San Lorenzo Ruiz Student Catholic Center with board and lodging; this
includes

• 3 meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner),


• Water (limited to drinking and shower. Laundry is not allowed. Cf. Financial
• contribution)
• Electricity (limited to some gadgets : cellphone, electric fan, laptop, tablet, Ipad and
study lamp),
• a safe and good environment for their study/review.
• a Christian formation to deepen one’s faith.

COMMUNITY LIFE

Each resident is provided with a bed, mattress and pillow, a study desk with lamp, a chair and a
closet.
Any other needs should be provided by the resident himself/herself. See below List of things to
bring.
Each resident is in charge of the cleanliness of his/her room and sleeping area.
There is a study area where residents can work in silence. It is a shared place. NO FOOD and
DRINKS allowed.
Studying is a good exercise for the brain but physical exercises are as important as intellectual
exercises for any student to maintain a balanced life.
To relax, the residents have access to a TV room and a sports’ room where they can play table
tennis. The compound is big enough for those who like to jog.
• MEALS
If a resident cannot take his/her meal during the schedule of meals at the dining hall, they can have
their lunch packed for take-out (for example: if they need to stay at the Review Center the whole
day) or dinner packed and reserved to eat later (for example if class or review finishes after meal
time).
We do not provide food on Sundays and on holiday but the dining hall is open. EATING IS
NOT ALLOWED IN THE UPPER FLOORS.

• INTERNET
There’s a hotspot in the compound for those who would need access to internet. It’s ₱20 for 6h
connection.
SPIRITUAL LIFE

During their stay, residents boarders are encouraged to join the prayer life of the Community:
Morning Prayer 7.00 am
Adoration of the Blessed Holy Sacrament 12.00 pm
Daily Mass 6.30 pm
Restored by love
live the Sacrament of reconciliation
once a month

Praise and Worship evening.., every Tuesday 8.30pm


Bible study, sharing. as part of their Christian formation.

There is a monthly meeting mandatory for all residents. Resident may choose from several
activities proposed by the Community according to his/her schedule.

Week-ends of recollection will also be proposed during the year as well as a one week- retreat.

LIST OF THINGS TO BRING

Useful in daily life:


 Bedsheets(Residents should not sleep directly on the mattress),
 Pillowcase,
 Blankets,
 Towel,
 Lunchbox with set of spoon and fork
 Thermos
 Electric fan
 Wastebasket.
 Walis and dust pan

SOME RULES

• Alcoholic drinks and smoking are prohibited.


• Curfew time: 10:00pm.
• Silence should be observed after curfew time (between 10pm to 6:30am) including in the
garden. No more phone calls.
• Proper dress code: NO spaghetti strap shirt, no wearing pajamas on the 1st floor, no sando
or being shirtless outside one’s room, etc.
• Appliances allowed in the Center: electric fan, cellphone, additional study lamp, laptop /
Ipad / tablet.
• Appliances prohibited in the Center (for safety measures): Ironing, hair dryer, hair
straightener, kettle, cooler, aircooler, rice-cooker, etc. (heavy wattage electrical appliances).
• Food is not allowed in the room.
FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTION

The center proposes a “flat” monthly contribution. It means that there are no additional charges.
However each resident should have an additional budget of ₱450 to ₱700 per month for his/her
laundry because it is not allowed in the house.
A room is considered reserved upon receiving the reservation fee of ₱100 for every month
reserved.

Example:
If the reservation is made in April for an arrival in May (up to 2nd week), that would be 100
pesos.
If the arrival is in the 3rd or 4th week of May, the reservation fee would ₱200.
If the arrival date is in June, the reservation fee would be ₱300. And so on.

The reservation holds up to 2 weeks after expected date of arrival. If the administration is not
informed of any change of date of arrival, the reservation will be cancelled.

If the date of arrival is earlier than expected, please inform at least 1 week ahead of time for us
to prepare your room.

Reservation fee can be sent through LBC, Palawan Express or door to door delivery.
If through bank deposit, please contact us for the bank account. After the deposit, please email a
copy of the deposit slip with the full name of the resident on it.

CHECK-IN

We DO NOT ACCEPT WALK-IN CHECK-IN.


Every future resident should have a reservation before coming to San Lorenzo Ruiz dormitory and
announce his/her arrival date through email (sanlorenzo@chemin-neuf.org) or text (0920
964 9452) at least one (1) week before the said date.

SCHEDULE FOR CHECK-IN


Please confirm your date and time of arrival one week before the said date.
Monday to Saturday
From 8:00 am to 11:30 am
From 1:00 pm to 5:30pm

Upon check-in, there are


• Requirement papers to be handed:
➢ Xerox copy of baptismal or birth certificate(NSO)
➢ A medical certificate
➢ Residence certificate (Barangay certificate or Community Tax Certificate)
➢ Certificate of marriage (if applied)
➢ A letter of recommendation from the Dean of school or university or from the parish priest/pastor
➢ Two (2) 1x1 pictures
➢ Two (2) 2x2 or passport size pictures.
➢ Copy of enrollment at the Review Center / College / University
➢ Xerox copy of schedule.
• Financial contribution:
➢ the first month contribution (pro-ratabasis*),
➢ a one (1) month advance contribution (consumable on the last month of stay) and
➢ a one (1) month deposit (not consumable nor transferable) refundable** at the end of their stay
on conditions that:
a. There are no unsettled balance,
b. there are no losses or damages,
c. there are no violations to rules and regulations of the dorm,
d. That the room is surrendered properly cleaned.

* The month you check in, the contribution is on pro rata i.e. your monthly contribution is divided
by 30 and multiplied by the number of days of stay.
Example:
Date of check in: April 4
Type of room: Non aircon Cubicle Single
Contribution for April: 7800 / 30 = 260 pesos
April 4 – April 30 = 27 days
260 x 27 = 7020 pesos.
** In case of pre-termination of contract, the Center reserves the right to retain the deposit.

Who is the Chemin Neuf Community?

The Chemin Neuf Community is an international Catholic community with an ecumenical vocation
that grew out of a prayer group. It is composed of men and women: religious priests, consecrated
sisters and brothers, lay (single or married), who have chosen the adventure of community life to
follow Christ poor and humble, in order to serve the Church and the world.

We currently have around 2000 members in over 31 countries.

We are of Ignatian spiritualty and take its roots also in the Charismatic Renewal.

At the invitation of Cardinal Rosales, then Archbishop of Manila, and Cardinal Tagle, current
Archbishop of Manila, the Chemin Neuf arrived in Manila in 2013. San Lorenzo Ruiz Student
Catholic Center is our mother house in the Philippines.

Our apostolates are with


• The children of our barangay (educational and spiritual)
• the young people (18-30 yrs) at the Student Center in Manila and
• with couples and families through our mission called CANA.

We conduct retreats for young people and couples according to the Spiritual Exercises of St
Ignatius of Loyola and also the week long retreat.
