Fossil fuels has already been a big part on our everyday life. They are cheap
and reliable sources of energy. The technology we use to harness the energy in
fossil fuels is well developed. The main reason for this is that fossil fuels have been
used to power our world for many decades. The thing is, fossil fuels may have
helped through our everyday life, it still brings many disadvantages that we do not
know as we continue to use them.
One of them is that they are non-renewable. According to the United States'
Energy Information Administration, one of the major world sources that gathers
information about the world's energy use, the amount of energy the world needs
to generate — the equivalent of 5.60 × 1020 Joules — is pretty hard to understand.
We’ll need to burn a total of 24 billion tons of coal, 12 billion tons of oil, 10.4 billion
tons of gas in order to power the world and meet Earth’s energy needs every year.
Fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas) are finite resources, consume them for long enough,
they will eventually run out, and it will take millions of years before they can be
replaced.
Another disadvantage is that they highly contribute to global warming. Fossil
fuels are not green sources of energy. In fact, when we burn fossil fuels like coal,
and gas to create electricity or power our cars, we release carbon dioxide pollution
into the atmosphere making it blamed for being the main contributor to global
warming.
Biogas, on the other hand, makes it as a better alternative. Unlike fossil
fuels, they are renewable, eco-friendly, simple and low-cost technology that
encourages a circular economy. They even reduces soil and water pollution.
However, an unfortunate disadvantage of biogas today is that the systems used in
the production of biogas are not efficient. There are no new technologies yet to
simplify the process and make it abundant and low cost. This means large scale
production to supply for a large population is still not possible. Although the biogas
plants available today are able to meet some energy needs, many governments
are not willing to invest in the sector. Another thing is that since biogas can be
produced from raw materials such as waste, manure, municipal waste, plant
material etc. it is more suitable in rural areas and not in urban areas.
This study will try to provide some evidences to see if a dog waste can be
used to produce biogas as an alternative to fossil fuels. Furthermore, this study as
mentioned above will be beneficial to the environment and people living there as
well.
B. QUSTION OR PROBLEM BEING ADDRESSED
Expected Outcome: The biogas produced form the dog watse will be an
effective alternative to fossil fuels.
Hypothesis: If the biogas produced from the dog’s waste is able to be more
eco-friendly as compared to fossil fuels, then the biogas produced from the dog
waste is an effective alternative to fossil fuels.

a Biogas
Collection of Materials
Materials, specifically dog waste will be collected from a place in Malinta,
Valenzuela City.
Preparation of Setups
The dog waste collected will then be prepared to a methane digestion. The
dog poop will be put inside a tank that is made of 14-inch-thick concrete walls and
thick floors, which contain heating coils.
There are no risks and harmful factors involved in this study. The
researchers will make sure that the methodology included in the study will be
executed with precautions to ensure the safety of the researchers. Any unexpected
unfavorable conditions during the conduct of the study will be immediately handled
by the researches to ensure the safety and will cause no harm to all the people
and organisms involved.
