Waiting at the Sunset

In which two people from two

different worlds met each other in
the most beautiful art before it
gets dark, the sunset.

Song: Everything I Need - Skylar

Grey from Aquaman

Taehyung sat on a bench,

grinning at his best friend,
Jungkook as he put his purple
surfboard in the sand beside him.
They are enjoying another day of
summer with their favorite hobby,
surfing in the same place where
their friends end up when having
a vacation. Yes, they love the
ocean and its waves, but it is
nothing compared with the fun
that ends up with it.

"I think that Yerim gal likes you,

Kook. She keeps on looking at you
when you're on it." Taehyung said,
teasing the younger one.

Jungkook furrowed his eyebrows

while looking at Taehyung
curiously.

"That one pretty girl who was at

the store earlier?"

Taehyung nodded and smirked.

"Yeah, that's the one," he replied

and Jungkook just chuckled.

"I think you will find someone

today at least," the younger one
muttered which made Taehyung
stare at the waves of the ocean,
obviously waiting for fate to finally
play his destiny.
After their conversation,
Taehyung came back to their
beach house their friends owned.
But since the others have no plan
on living there, they planned to
live there temporarily for the
summer.

He walked back towards the

house, as he looks up at the
sunset in front of him. Hues of
orange, yellows, reds, and blues
are mixed in the sky as the sun's
yellow silhouette reflected the
calm waters of the sea. He
stopped at the moment and
smiled at the new found art that
nature has given him at the
moment.

Taehyung continued to walk

towards the house, remembering
the sunset's colors when
suddenly, he saw someone
walking in the beach. There are
no houses on the other side, only
trees, and the mangroves. He
wondered who's this person was,
so he watched the person walk
only to realize it was a woman.

Barefoot and only wearing a white

dress, her beauty mesmerized
him. She didn't saw him looking at
her so she continued walking
peacefully in the sand when
Taehyung walked towards her.

"Hey, are you lost?" it was a

stupid question for Taehyung to
say, but the girl looked at him with
the glint in her brown orbs and
smiled.

"No, I'm not. Actually, I... I live

here." she said, her voice as calm
as the ocean, still curious about
the man who was in front of him
that was currently distracting her
peaceful state.

Taehyung felt his cheeks brighten

up as he smiled and torn his gaze
away from her. For sure, he was
fucked up at that moment.
Embarrassment filled his brain as
he tried to process some words
that he could reply.

"I-I'm sorry, I interrupted you... Y-

you may continue to... uh," he
stuttered, making the woman
chuckle.

"Yeah, to walk.." she finished.

Taehyung tried to hide his
awkwardness and tried to look at
her completely. She was
completely a goddess, from his
perspective. Her beauty shines in
the mixture of the sunset's colors,
and her smile blinded him in a
second. There is no mistake that
fate really played his destiny this
time.

"So goodbye?" he said and

decided to turn back and walk
towards the house which is in
front of them.

"W-wait!" the girl shouted,

making him stop. He turned
towards her. She was smiling at
him like he was the one she was
looking for. Like the fate destined
them to meet. It was perfect.

"What's your name?" she

questioned him, which he
wondered why did she question
who he was when it was him who
needs to know her first.

Taking a step towards her, he

blissfully answered her question.

"My name's Taehyung, I live here.

J-Just for the summer, of course,"
he said, still stuttering at the sight
of the woman who was looking at
him.

"I'm Joohyun, and also..." she

paused, "You're a surfer right?"
she initiated the conversation
which Taehyung answered right
away.

"Yeah, I am.."

"It is the first time I saw you. I

always walk here at this hour to
see the sunset, in case you didn't
know," she said, walking towards
the house and finally spotting a
place beside a palm tree, where
she can see the sunset clearly as
it slowly began to fade, making
the sky darker. She sat and stared
at the horizon, smiling.

"I am always alone... and now

you're here." he tried to be casual
as possible, slowly making his
way towards the woman and
sitting beside her while feeling his
heart beating so fast.

"I guess you're not going to be

alone starting today, right?" he
comments, smiling at her.
"I hope so," she replies as the sky
became dark and the stars
started to appear.

Ever since they met, they keep on

talking to each other. Meeting at
the same place, at the same time,
and in the same sunset.

Taehyung wondered why her

beauty is unchanging. She was
almost a goddess, a woman full of
beauty that he instantly fell in love
with. The way she talks, it was as
calm as the ocean. And when she
laughs, God, it was like the waves
are crashing on the shore that he
loves the most.

In burning bonfire and with their

laughter, they enjoyed each
other's company in the night.
With the night skies up above
them and the moon, which
reflected the waters with its light,
nothing is much beautiful than
her, for Taehyung.

"Joo, I think if you'll be a celebrity,

everyone loves you," Taehyung
jokingly said and Joohyun just
smiled.

"I think I can't, Tae..." she said,

eating the marshmallows and
looking at him with sadness in her
eyes. All of a sudden, her mood
changed. Taehyung was still
smiling, wanting to push the
conversation even further.

"It's your dream, right? So go for

it!" he cheered up the woman, but
it's no use. She tried to stand up
but her legs gave away making
her fall but Taehyung caught her
in time.

"Taehyung... please put me in the

water. Please!" she begged.
Taehyung, who was confused
about what's happening, brought
her towards the sea. He placed
her carefully in the water, and in a
moment, her legs became a fin,
much looks like a mermaid and
her clothes changed also.

His eyes widened when Joohyun

tried to get away from him, afraid
of showing her true form when it's
already late. He saw who she
really was, and what she really is.

And she hated it.

"Wait!" like a Deja-vú, Joohyun

stopped when she heard him.

"The moment I saw you, I know

you're unbelievable. I saw a
goddess, in which a human
cannot be..." Joohyun closed her
eyes, tears falling from her eyes
which came from her human
mother. She swam back towards
the shore and saw Taehyung
smiling at her like she's the most
precious thing in the world for
him.

"But please, don't leave me." he

continued, begging.

"This is a mistake... W-we should

have never met." Joohyun tried to
get her legs back, forcing herself
to change into a human but there
is no avail. Her tears keep on
falling from her eyes, as Taehyung
walked towards her and swam
into the waters but she keeps on
swimming away from him.

She decided. She will not see him

again.

"I'm sorry..." she whispered and

swam back into the depths of the
ocean, where she belongs.
"Joohyun!" she heard him scream
her name but she continued to go
away. But hearing Taehyung
screaming her name again, she
decided to go back and look for
him.

He was trying to save himself, it

was already dark and waves don't
help him either. Why the hell did
he end up going towards her in
the middle of the night in the sea?
And now he cannot save himself.

He felt the large waves of the

ocean hit him. All of the sudden, it
started to rain and he tried to
swim back towards the shore but
it started to rain harder making
the waves bigger.

Joohyun found him struggling as

she swam towards him. As he felt
himself sinking, his breaths
uneven, Joohyun held him and
brought him into the shore.
The waves are so large that she
thinks this is a punishment for her
because she loved a human, and
letting him see who she was. He
was unconscious now, and all she
does is to save him.

She cupped his cheeks, and

kissed him. Giving him air to
breathe, she tried to remove all
the emotions in her heart as she
tried again and again until
someone came out of the house
where Taehyung was staying in.

Looking at him once again, she

saw he was already coughing and
starting to open his eyes. She
smiled and kissed his cheek. She
was a crying mess already.

"I love you... I promise I'll come

back..." she whispered and swam
back towards the ocean.

The moment Taehyung opened

his eyes, he saw Jungkook's
worried face as he remembered
everything.

She was gone.

In the morning, Taehyung stared

into the vast ocean as he waited
for her to come back again. He
sure does love her, it was love at
first sight. He was happy around
her and wanting her to be with
him forever. But what he saw last
night, he wants her more. More
than anything in the world.

"Taehyung?" Jungkook said and

sat beside him in the sand where
the sun finally rises in the sea.

He didn't mutter a word which the

younger one became worried.

"Last night, you look like you've

been drowned in the ocean and
saved by someone. You keep on
muttering that woman's name and
now you're a broken mess. Are
you trying to kill yourself last
night?"

Taehyung tried to stop his tears

from falling as he remembered
everything. From their first
meeting, until all the events last
night that he thoroughly
remember.

"S-she will not come back..."

"Why?" Jungkook looked at him

curiously, wanting to know why
the latter is getting emotional
right now. All he knew that
Taehyung keeps on hanging out
with a woman, who looks like a
goddess.

Taehyung paused and tried to

wipe the tears that are falling
from his eyes.

"Don't ask why."

Day after day, he keeps on waiting
for her especially in sunsets
where they first met. Still no signs
of her, he tried to make himself
happy by doing surfing, which he
loves. The summer was already
ending, so he did what the thing
he needs to do.

To forget the woman that he saw

that sunset.

"At last, we're going back,"

Jungkook muttered as he finally
closed the door of the house.
Taehyung remembered something
and looked at the ocean. Seems
it's already goodbye right now.

"Yeah..."

"You okay?" Jungkook said and

brought all of his bags. Taehyung
just smiled at him and began
walking towards the resort where
they will come out and travel to
the city.

As they arrived at the resort, they

are greeted by their fans as they
gave their goodbyes. Taking a
look at the glistening seas one
last time before coming inside
their car, he saw her.

She was smiling.

She was crying.

And in the blink of an eye, she

disappeared.

2 Years After

Making his way back home into

their beach house, Taehyung
remembered the woman he saw 2
years ago. Times flies so quickly,
he was already with his hyungs
right now and their girlfriends in
this big house.

The sun is setting down, and

remembering all the colors that
he saw, he smiled. She was just a
figment of all the colors that he
saw that day. He still remembers
how beautiful she was when the
colors are mixed in her figure in
her long white dress, her eyes
sparkling and her long ebony hair
flowing in her back.

"Taehyung?" he looked at the

voice who is calling him and
surprised when he saw her at last.

She didn't change. The woman

that he hopelessly waiting for.

And in a moment, she ran towards

him and hugged him. Taehyung
was still in shock, he doesn't
know what to do.

"I-I missed you... So much. I'm

sorry..." she whispered in his
chest.

Taehyung hugged back, inhaling

the fresh ocean scent in her hair
as he remembered everything.
How he loved her so much, and
how he wants to meet her again.

"I'm sorry..." she apologized and

looked at him.

Her eyes are full of tears, and

Taehyung tried to wipe them away
using his thumb, cupping her face
delicately. He had mixed emotions
right now, he's happy but he's sad
to see her again. All those sad
emotions when he sees the ocean
came back. Those time when he
forces himself to forget,
convincing himself that it was all
his imagination.

"I should've gone away, I should

have stayed. I love you, I love you
so much that all I wanted is to be
a human so that I could be with
you forever but-" Taehyung
kissed her. It was so full of
longing, a kiss that screams how
much he misses her, how much
he loves her.

He put her forehead against her

breathlessly, staring at her eyes.
He kissed her forehead and
smiled.

"I don't care about who you are,

or what you are as long as you're
here, Joohyun. As long as you
love me and I love you," he trailed
off feeling the ocean breeze and
the sun setting down at the last
minute.

"I love you..." Joohyun whispered.

"And finally, I could be with you
once again, for a long, long time."

"Really?" Taehyung happily

questioned her as he held her
close. Joohyun smiled and held
his face softly.

"My father knows about us and he

remembered himself in me. I was
born half human and half
mermaid, or shall we say, I'm not a
mermaid at all times and I
become human in the day.

"My dad gave me a necklace,

which I will become a human for
14 years and I need to go back to
the ocean to see my father once
in a while." she smiled cheekily
and Taehyung felt her tears falling
while smiling. They are in a crying
mess right now.

They both laughed, feeling the

happiness coming back from two
years ago, and especially the love
that made them together.
"Joo... You know I love you right?"
Taehyung asked, and Joohyun
nodded, still smiling.

As the sunset ends and the stars

finally came out from the night
sky, it was a serene moment for
the two. As they both shared
another kiss, which they realized,
they both need each other.

And even though they came from

different worlds, their love made
them together.

They are meant for each other.

Just like the sunset belongs to
the day when they first met each
other.
