Why Jetty boil off gas is genertated?

Jetty boil-off gas is generated through

Heat from BOG vapor displacement from ship loading
Loading LNG
surroundings -1000 C and vaporization at LNG loading
ship
berths.

-160 0 C around 1% of the LNG evaporates as

boil-off gas (BOG) due to the
difference of temperature between
the LNG and the ship’s tanks.

Boil off gas is flared due to its low

Heat from pressure (virtually atm pressure )
surroundings
which means a loss of a valuable

resource and increasing Co2 emissions

Qatar Jetty Boil-off Gas Project.. Scope and challenges

Each train of compressors consists of a low-pressure,

medium-pressure and high-pressure compressor to
compress gas from 0.03 barg to 48 barg.

The largest ever built in the world handling a

volume of 163 ton per hour coupled with
low suction pressure

The design of the inlet guide vanes at varying

inlet temperatures ranging from -140°C to
ambient temperature was a huge challenge

Due to the very low pressure drop allowed

between the ship and compressor, no check
valve design could work with those limitations.
