ABSTRACT OF THE STUDY
Year : 2018-2019
The Problem
This study aims to know if there is an effect of catcalling to change the dress code
of women.
Findings
The researchers found out that most of the respondents usually experienced
catcalling in the streets and transportations.
Majority of the respondents are usually wearing casual clothes, school uniform and
especially, fitted clothes.
Almost all of the respondents think that wearing shorts and sleeveless clothes
make it more attractive and prone to be catcalled.
When it comes to the reaction and action of the respondents, most of the
respondents ignore and pretend not to hear nor see the catcaller when being catcalled,
but the other respondents confront them.
Mainly, the respondents did not try nor change the dress code.
v
Based on the result, most of the respondents’ self-esteem is affected by
catcalling, making them less comfortable and becoming more aware to their
surroundings.
Conclusion
The researchers therefore conclude that women’s dress code has no effect for
women to be catcalled.
The conclusion is based from the informants’ answers, whether women wear
conservatively or not, it is the catcallers’ job to suppress catcalling, that in the first place
is their fault, and not the victims. Catcalling is in fact not a form of flattery and compliment
instead, catcalling is a form of harassment and objectification, that leads women feel less
comfortable to the public and causes a low self-esteem and confidence.
