Method Statement (Machine Trial pitting)

SAMPLING DURING TRIAL PITTING 1 SCOPE OF OPERATIONS Reviewed by: Simon Claringbull

The scope of this trial pitting operation are given below: • To describe the
methods used to form an exploratory hole for the examination of made ground and
natural ground.

To describe how to take samples for geotechnical testing and chemical analysis. .
The test locations is marked in the drawing “Exploratory hole location plan”. The
final locations will depend on the approval from the station’s Senior Authorised
Person in the delineated areas of the exploratory holes. •

KEY HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUES

See attached risk assessments Carry radio or other communication or accompanied by


coal plant staff, as authorised by the SAP Basic first aid equipment will be
provided on site at all times. E.ON UK provides an Appointed Person on site. In the
event of an injury, the Appointed Person shall take the injured person to an
accident & emergency department if appropriate or basic first aid will be
administered on site. If a serious accident occurs, the emergency services will be
called immediately (via the control desk 3333). The accident will be logged in the
E.ON accident book. The nearest hospital with an accident & emergency department to
the site is: o The Princess Royal Hospital providing services for Shrewsbury and
Telford Hospital NHS Trust o Apley Castle, Grainger Drive, Telford, Shropshire, TF1
6TF o Tel: 01952 641222 A route to the Hospital, which is less than 6 miles away,
will be kept on site at all times during the site works. Buried services are a
specific risk to personnel on site. Service plans are to be provided by the station
prior to the commencement of the works. Furthermore, competent station staff will
mark out the known existing services and check using CAT tools for unknown
services. If we are in doubt as to the location of services the work may not
commence until we have suitable confirmation of their absence or location.
