Would you like to learn English just listening to songs?

In Ecuador there are too many people who does not like English, in ESPOL(Escuela

Superior Politecnica del Litoral) is less, but there are still some students who does not like

English, and this is maybe because since school, the way in what English is taught is not

efficient and that probably makes students do not enjoy and do not to take the class seriously.

Regarding this; How can students learn English in a funny way to get that they like English?

The answer is not hard, it is simple, English songs should be more used to teach English to

college students in ESPOL.

Use songs in classroom is an excellent idea because music makes a melody that

people enjoy, and when people enjoy class they have more motivation to learn; furthermore,

when someone listen a song is easier to keep focused on, regardless lyric. The rhythm is

useful because sometimes is hard to keep focused on any text to people who are not too

related with English. All of us know that people do not have the same likes, one contra idea

or contra-argument could be that not all student would enjoy the class because will have

probably ones which do not like song and others who like; however, this could have a solution

which is put some songs for certain student and put other song for the others.

The most of English songs use natal vocabulary by artists, and this gives a plus to

students in vocabulary concerning. How is this possible? Artists who sing a song generally

uses a different vocabulary than which is taught in college, therefor student could spread out

their vocabulary and use more synonyms; for instance; imagine dragons band used “fire up”

in a song to express angriness, and that kind of meanings are not too used in college or high

school. Somebody with a different point of view could say that usually some songs do not use
the right words; maybe it is not formal to use some expression used in songs, but it gives

more options for students to express a feeling or an idea in a different way.

Another important thing is that, it is easier to learn a new word when someone learn

it by a song. This is because when someone likes a music, person gets curiosity to understand

it all, and have the interest and the desire to understand a music obviously will make it easier.

Besides; when we listen the word in other side after hear it in a song, we immediately make

a relation with the song, so it is harder to forget the word meaning. Although there are some

people who is able to spread out their vocabulary faster that hearing songs, there are who

cannot make it that easy and this helps that kind of persons because by repeating it once and

once more, we learn and strengthen the meaning of words we hear.

Definitely it should have a new way to teach English in ESPOL and even in other

colleges, because student could enjoin English classes and thus learn it better; teacher

should have the initiative, they should use several kind of songs for avoid the problems about

different likes; nevertheless, students and even people can take the initiative, come on and

listen to more songs in English.
