UTENSILS

A curved or circular cutting

blade with a handle that serves as
a cutting tool to cleanly slice pizza,
lasagna, flatbread crusts,
brownies, and other similar foods
into smaller pieces. This kitchen
utensil is typically made of
stainless steel but there are also
composite materials used to make
the Pizza Cutters as well. The most
common forms of the Pizza Cutters are either the curved Cutter or the
wheeled Cutter. Both are designed to slice through the food with only
minimal damage to the toppings or top layer. The curved blade variety
of Cutter can also be used to chop and dice a variety of different foods
such as vegetables. After foods have been cut into smaller pieces, the
curved Cutter can also serve as a food scoop to gather and transfer the
bits of cut food into a bowl or to another preparation surface.

Wood has long been used for eating utensils,

serving utensils and preparation tools.
Wooden spoons are a cooking essential and
also a beautiful addition to your kitchen and
dining experience. On the practical side,
these lightweight yet strong utensils are
great for tossing salads and serving
everything from mashed potatoes to green
beans. Wooden spoons are also the perfect
preparation tools for use with nonstick pans.
Cleaning and general care of wooden spoons differs, however, from the
cleaning and care of metal utensils. Wood expands in water, so soaking
the spoons in dishwater is generally not advised. Aside from a few basic
rules of care, however, it is not difficult to keep wooden spoons looking
like new.
Rubber spatulas are
found in many kitchens as
they are easy to obtain,
affordable and can be
used for practically any
cooking or baking job
without being damaged.
To keep rubber spatulas
looking their best, clean
them in a way that does
not damage the rubber or
leave behind any residue.

A whisk is a cooking
utensil which can be used to
blend ingredients smooth or to
incorporate air into a mixture,
in a process known as whisking
or whipping. Most whisks
consist of a long, narrow
handle with a series of wire
loops joined at the end. The
wires are usually metal, but
some are plastic for use with
nonstick cookware. Whisks are
also made from bamboo.

Whisks are commonly used to whip egg whites into a firm foam
to make meringue, or to whip cream into whipped cream.
A peeler (vegetable scraper) is a
kitchen tool consisting of a slotted metal
blade attached to a handle that is used to
remove the outer layer, informally
dubbed the "skin", of certain vegetables,
often broccoli stalks, carrot roots, and
potatoes, and sometimes fruits such as
apples, pears, etc. A paring knife may also
be used to peel vegetables. A peeler
differs from a knife in that the blade has a
slot cut into it, which is sharpened on the
inside edge, while the other side prevents
the blade from cutting too far into the
vegetable.

A Pastry Blender is a
hand-held tool used both to
cut solid fat into flour, and
to blend it in thoroughly.
The fat can be lard, butter,
dripping, suet, shortening or
margarine. The act of what
you are doing is called
“cutting in the fat.” The
blender is used most often
for pastry dough, scone
dough, or baking powder
biscuit dough.They are
completely hand powdered. It consists of a handle that has half-moon
shaped wires attached to it at both ends. The handle can be metal, wood
or plastic. Wood is traditional. The finish on wood may deteriorate in the
dishwasher, but some people don’t care what it ends up looking life, they
just think wood is still more comfortable to use. The wires curve
downwards away from the handle at one end, and then upwards and
back into the other end of the handle. The wires can be thickish wires, or
metal blades. Wires are more traditional, and some say, more efficient
at even mixing because they are more flexible.
Rotary beaters are relatively
inexpensive, and are a great tool to
have around the kitchen. They are
available at most stores specializing
in kitchen accessories or the kitchen
department of most discount
retailers. It is possible to obtain a
good quality rotary beater that will
last for years, and requires little
more than routine cleaning and
care.

Alternatives to rotary egg beaters

include the standard whisk. Some
cooks do not prefer this tool,
however, because hand beating in this way can be strenuous. Rotary
beaters have also been supplanted to some degree by electric
alternatives. Both hand mixers and stand mixers can be used for a variety
of purposes that rotary beaters fulfill.
A can opener (also known as
a tin opener) is a device used to
open steel (not tin) cans.Simple
can openers, like those found in
pocket knives, are operated by
walking the device around the
edge of the can while digging into
the lid. The lid will have very
jagged edges after removal.Most
can openers press a cutting wheel
into the edge of the lid while a
rough support wheel presses up
under the lip of the can. It is best
to purchase a can opener that
drives this support wheel to
provide easier motion. Non-
electric can openers with this
feature can be identified by a set of gears behind the cutting and support
wheels. The pictured can opener has such gears, with 2 or 3 teeth visible
peeking out above the cutting wheel near the bottom of the picture.
A mesh strainer also
known as sift, commonly
known as sieve, is a
device for separating
wanted elements from
unwanted material or for
characterizing the
particle size distribution
of a sample, typically
using a woven screen
such as a mesh or net or
metal. The word "sift" derives from "sieve". In cooking, a sifter is used to
separate and break up clumps in dry ingredients such as flour, as well as
to aerate and combine them. A strainer is a form of sieve used to
separate solids from liquid.

A colander (or cullender) is a

kitchen utensil used to strain foods
such as pasta or rice or to rinse
vegetables.[1] The perforated nature
of the colander allows liquid to drain
through while retaining the solids
inside. It is sometimes also called a
pasta strainer or kitchen sieve.
Conventionally, colanders are made
of a light metal, such as aluminium or
thinly rolled stainless steel. Colanders
are also made of plastic, silicone,
ceramic, and enamelware. The word
colander comes from the Latin colum
meaning sieve.
EQUIPMENTS

A refrigerator (colloquially
fridge) consists of a thermally
insulated compartment and a heat
pump (mechanical, electronic or
chemical) that transfers heat from
the inside of the fridge to its
external environment so that the
inside of the fridge is cooled to a
temperature below the ambient
temperature of the room.
Refrigeration is an essential food storage technique in developed
countries. The lower temperature lowers the reproduction rate of
bacteria, so the refrigerator reduces the rate of spoilage. A refrigerator
maintains a temperature a few degrees above the freezing point of water.
Optimum temperature range for perishable food storage is 3 to 5 °C (37
to 41 °F). A similar device that maintains a temperature below the
freezing point of water is called a freezer. The refrigerator replaced the
icebox, which had been a common household appliance for almost a
century and a half.

A freezer is an appliance that keeps food

frozen at extremely low temperatures. A
household freezer is usually built into a
refrigerator. It's where you keep your ice
cream and ice cubes.
The freezer is where you keep ice cubes
and frozen peas — it's a compartment at
the top (or bottom) of the refrigerator in
your kitchen. Larger freezers are used to
keep enough food for a long period of
time, or so a restaurant, hotel, or school cafeteria can store leftover food
or keep enough to cook for a crowd of people. The word freezer was
coined in 1847, although it originally meant part of an ice cream maker.
A stove is a machine that heats
or cooks. If you want really delicious
popcorn, don't use the microwave —
cook it the old-fashioned way, in a pot
of hot oil on the stove.
Stoves typically use gas or electricity.
If you have a wood-burning stove in
your house, you know it's an
apparatus that burns split logs to
create enough heat to warm up a
room — or several rooms.

Most ovens are in kitchens, whether

in private homes or restaurants. Every
once in a while, you'll see an outdoor
bread or pizza oven too — these are
built of brick, stone, or clay, and can
safely get hot enough to bake at very
high temperatures. Another kind of
oven is one that's used for baking
ceramics, which is also called a kiln or
sometimes a furnace. The very oldest
ovens were built thousands of years
ago in Central and Eastern Europe.

The Pasta Machine may be
a motor driven machine or a
hand-cranked machine that
rolls out the dough, stretches it
and then cuts it to size. Larger
Pasta Machines are made to
mix and extrude dough that
will be formed into shaped
pasta, however, those are
more common in commercial
use. For home use, the hand-
crank machine is the most popular unless homemade pasta is an everyday
event and there is a need or desire to make the process more efficient by
using a machine with a motor.
Most often the Pasta Machine is made of stainless steel which encloses a
set of rollers through which the pasta dough is rolled. As it passes through
the rollers, the machine flattens or stretches the pasta, depending on the
setting selected for the thickness, creating a thin to thick strip of dough
to be formed into the pasta desired. The machine may also have
attachments for cutting various sizes of pasta strips into noodles, linguine,
fettuccine or other pastas of this type.

Deep Fryers, which may be known as Deep Fat Fryers or Flash Fryers, are
built for home use and commercial use, the difference typically being size
and features. Home fryers are smaller in size with smaller oil capacity
chambers and are built to fry less amounts of food so individual portions
or servings for only a few can be fried. Commercial varieties will often
contain larger capacity oil chambers for greater amounts of food. Deep
Fryers may consist simply of a deep walled pot made from cast iron, black
steel or stainless steel that are used on stovetops.
A toaster, or a toast maker, is an
electric small appliance designed to
toast sliced bread by exposing it to
radiant heat, thus converting it into
toast. Toasters can toast multiple
types of sliced bread products. ...
Toaster ovens function the same as a
small-scale conventional oven.

A mixer is a kitchen utensil

which uses a gear-driven
mechanism to rotate a set of
beaters in a bowl containing the
food to be prepared. It automates
the repetitive tasks of stirring,
whisking or beating. When the
beaters are replaced by a dough
hook, a mixer may also be used to
knead. A mixer may be a handheld
mechanism known as an
eggbeater, a handheld motorized
beater, or a stand mixer. Stand
mixers vary in size from small
countertop models for home use
to large capacity commercial
machines. Stand mixers create the
mixing action by rotating the
mixing device vertically: planetary mixers, or by rotating the mixing
container: spiral mixers.
