The Words of My Mother

By Ericson M. Manpatilan

As young as three
My mom would already tell me
Little knowledge is a dangerous play
So learning must be taken seriously

When I finally got to school

I thought it was super cool
Learning so much more than ABC
Understanding the bigger world around me

I also earned friends, left and right

While I learned how to read and write
We would play after every class
Making memories that’ll surely last

Though life wasn’t always easy

And people weren’t always friendly
I take every learning opportunity
To be better each passing day

Now that I’m older

And hopefully, wiser
I look back with glee
I did take learning seriously

I did not only learn the ABCs and 123s

I also gained amazing experiences
So, I will continue to learn and be better
Always remembering, the words of my mother
