Ankle and Foot Injury in Saiful Anwar General Hospital Malang from January 2017 –

January 2018 : A Descriptive Study

Background :
The Authors report about epidemiology of ankle injury in Saiful Anwar General Hospital Malang.
Focusing particularly the authors to report the distribution of population on patient’s gender and
age, mecanisme of injury, classification, and management of ankle injury. The purpose of this
descriptive report describe the epidemiology of patients with ankle injury in Saiful Anwar
General Hospital Malang.

Methode:
The descriptive report process the ankle injury patients which had collected by Orthopaedic and
Traumatology Department of Saiful Anwar General Hospital Malang in database system pattern
for a period of 1 year since January 2017 to January 2018. Data analysis had done by using
Microsoft Excel 2013.

Result :
A total of 35 patients ankle injury records were reviewed over 12 months. Gender characteristic
of the patients with ankle injury greater among male than female, 54% patients were males (n =
16) and 46% were females (n = 19). The most common aged group affected was 18-30 years
(89%; n = 31).. A total of 433 patients foot injury with 433 patients with 316 male and 117
female. The frequent of adult trauma is greater than children ( 79 % n = 364 patient), the
incident in children only 21% (69 patient).The foot injury in Saiful Anwar General Hospital
Malang from January 2017 – January 2018 usually occur in hindfoot (50% ; n= 217) ,the other
occur in midfoot ( 11% ; n = 48) and the forefoot ( 39% ; n=168).

Discussion :
In this population based study, we had been documented gender, age, and patterns of ankle
injury, since January 2017 to January 2018 using database system of Orthopaedic and
Traumatology Department of Saiful Anwar General Hospital Malang. Finally, further research is
needed into the long-term outcomes of patients with ankle injury, particularly with reference to
their prognosis.
