What is OPT?
A. OPT is Optional Practical Training, in which opt is a kind of work authorization for international students
studying master’s in USA.
B. Student will get his OPT which is valid for 1 year in which he need to apply for EAD once he gets OPT.
C. EAD: Employment Authorization document.
I-983 form: It is the form for international students to get STEM extension. The STEM OPT student and employer
work together to complete the Form I-983. Properly completing this form will successfully document the relationship between
the STEM OPT opportunity, the academic degree received and the learning objectives of the F-1 student.
What is CPT?
A. CPT is Curriculum Practical Training in which student can get a work permit of 6 months when he is in 3 rd
semester of his master’s.
VISA Types
Visa Description
F1 An international student requires the F1 Visa (non-immigrant visa) to visit a college/institution in the US to
pursue higher studies. In addition to the duration of stay allowed in the US under the F1 Visa (based on the
academic program), the visa holder can stay in the US for additional 60 days (if the individual is not approved to
stay and work under the Optional Practical Training (OPT) Program. An applicant must obtain the F1 Visa in
order to enter the US for attending a university/college/institution, high school, private elementary school,
seminar or any other training program.
H1b H1-B Visa is a nonimmigrant Visa which is designed to allow U.S. employers to employ foreign nationals in
specialty occupations in the United States of America for a specified period. People from outside U.S. who are
looking for employment need to have a H1-B Visa under the Immigration and Nationality Act.
H4 EAD A H4 visa is issued to dependent family members (spouse and children) of H1 visa holders who would like to
accompany the H1B visa holder to the U.S. during their stay. This article outlines the complete process on how
to apply for H4 dependent visas. In such a case, the principal applicant is always the H1B visa holder. Immediate
family members like spouse and children under 21 years old may qualify for a H4 visa and may apply at a US
Consulate in their home country.
B2 Any individual who wants to visit the United States of America for tourism purposes needs to have a B2 Visa. It
is a non-immigrant visa, which is provided for various purposes such as travel, visits with relatives or friends,
medical treatment, etc. The B2 visa is commonly known as the tourist visa.
L1 An L1 visa is one of the most commonly procured visas by individuals who wish to work in the United States of
America, under the L-1 category. L-1 is a non-immigrant visa and can be used for a short period of time, i.e.,
from three months for Iranian nationals, to a period of five years for citizens from India and Japan. This visa is
based on a schedule of non-reciprocity and the maximum period for which an individual can stay in the States
under this visa, is seven years.

Card. Principally, the Green Card is an identification card indicating the holder’s status to live and work in
the USA permanently.
US Citizen A citizen is a person who is a member of our country. As a citizen, you give your loyalty to the U.S. government.
In return, the government protects you and all your rights granted in the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. If
you were born in the United States, you are already a citizen.
What is Visa?
A. Visa is a kind of official document or certificate of endorsement on your passport indicating that you are allowed to
enter, leave and stay in a specific country for a specified period of time or permanently. It can be a separate certificate
with a stamp marked on your passport. Visas are issued by the immigration authorities of a foreign country after
checking and verifying all your credentials properly. Once, you get a visa means you are permitted to enter a country
and stay there for a specific period of time. However, the permission received through visa is temporary and subject to
approval from the immigration officer at the entry point.
For F1 students whose period of authorized stay expires before October 1 and do not qualify for a cap-gap extension must
leave the US or they may lose their status. Upon leaving the US, students must apply for an H1B visa at a consulate abroad and
enter the US on H1B status if the petition is approved.
What is I20?
A. The Form I-20 (also known as the Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (F-1) Student Status-For Academic and
Language Students) is a United States Department of Homeland Security, specifically ICE and the Student and Exchange
Visitor Program (SEVP), document issued by SEVP-certified schools (colleges, universities, and vocational schools) that
provides supporting information on a student's F or M status.
B. When you submit any USCIS application, you will receive an I-797, also known as a receipt letter, once they
have received your application. You should expect to receive it about 2-3 weeks after you submit your
application.
C. The Form I-797 serves many purposes. It can be a receipt notifying you that your application has been
approved. It can also be a request for additional evidence. It can also be a notice of the time and date of a
scheduled appointment. There are 7 specific I-797 forms. The sections below will explain both the standard I-
797 and the other 6 forms.

What is W2 contract job?
A. On W2, candidate works as a full time employee of a company (Employer) and employer takes care of
employee and employer taxes. Employer sends W2 form to candidate in January, for the previous year
wages and deductions.
1099: Candidate will works as the contractor for a company for the contract period.
C2C: This is the contract between the company (Client) and the company (Vendor).
C2H: Contract to hire, it is that vendor’s candidate will work with client ON CONTRACT for a particular period and
latterly they will be hired as full-time employee for the client.
