Scalar

The physical quantity which require only magnitude are called scalar quantity.

e.g. Distance,speed,mass ,density,etc.

Scalars can be added, subtracted, multiplied or divided by simple algebraic laws.

Vector
The physical quantity which has magnitude as well as direction is called vector quantity.

Vector can be divided in two types -

1. Polar vector
These are vectors which have a starting point or point of application as a displacement, force, ect.
2. Axial vector
These are those which represent rotational effect and act along axis of rotation with right hand
screw rule such as angular velocity, torque, angular momentum., etc.

Tensors

Tensors are those physical quantites which have different directions at the same point.

E.g. moment of inertia, radius of gyration, modulus of elasticity, conductivity, resitivity, refractive index,

wave velocity,etc

Types of vectors

1. Equal Vectors : Two vector of equal magnitude, in same direction are called Equal vectors.
2. Parallel Vectors : Those vectors which have same direction are called Parallel vectors.
3. Anti-parallel Vectors : : Those vectors which have opposite direction are called Anti-Parallel
vectors.
4. Collinear Vectors : Those vectors which act along same same line.
5. Coplanar Vectors : Those vectors which always lie in same plane.
6. Negative vectors : The opposite direction to the original direction are called negative vector.
