Pocket-sized ultrasound
Vscan is a handheld, pocket-sized ultrasound tool that provides real-time black-and-
white anatomic and color-coded blood flow images at the touch of a button.
Vscan enables a quick look inside your patients – immediately and non-invasively. With
Vscan you can visually confirm what you hear and feel to help:
The first portable ultrasound machine was commercially available in 1975.(2) However,
the battery-powered, pocket-sized ultrasound machine did not arrive until the late
1990s. With recent advancements in technology, smaller and lighter devices with higher
image quality are now available (such as those manufactured by GE Healthcare, Siemens
and Philips). These pocket-sized ultrasound machines allow clinicians to have immediate
visual correlation with physical examination findings. They also allow for quick and
instant assessments, which are extremely important for emergency physicians. At a
healthcare resource allocation level, they significantly reduce a patient’s waiting time
and improve clinician’s workflow
The pocket-sized ultrasound machine has been shown to be suitable for cardiac imaging
in certain clinical settings.(5) However, its applicability for the imaging of other body
parts has yet to be established. In this pictorial essay, we compared the quality of
images obtained from a pocket-sized ultrasound machine and that of a standard
ultrasound machine in abdominal imaging. The pocket-sized ultrasound machine used
was the GE Vscan (GE Healthcare, Wauwatosa, WI, USA) and the standard ultrasound
machine
Infrared Thermometer

An infrared thermometer is a thermometer which infers temperature from a portion of

the thermal radiation sometimes called black-body radiation emitted by the object
being measured. They are sometimes called laser thermometers as a laser is used to
help aim the thermometer, or non-contact thermometers or temperature guns, to
describe the device's ability to measure temperature from a distance.

Infrared Energy
Sir William Herschel, an astronomer, is credited with the discovery of infrared energy in
1800. Knowing that sunlight was made up of all the colors of the spectrum, Herschel
wanted to explore the colors and their relationship to heat. He devised an experiment
using a prism to spread the light into the color spectrum and thermometers with
blackened bulbs to measure the temperatures of the different colors.
A Digital Stethoscope

A stethoscope, whether acoustic or digital, is used mainly to listen to heart and lung
sounds in the body as an aid to diagnosis. Listening, or auscultation, has been done with
acoustic stethoscopes for almost two hundred years; recently, electronic digital
stethoscopes have been developed.

The goal of a basic digital stethoscope is to have it retain the look and feel of an acoustic
stethoscope but to improve listening performance. In addition, high-end digital
stethoscopes offer sophisticated capabilities such as audio recording and playback. They
also provide data to visually chart results by connecting to an off-instrument display
such as a computer monitor. The essential elements of a digital stethoscope are the
sound transducer, the audio codec electronics, and the speakers. The sound transducer,
which converts sound into an analog voltage, is the most critical piece in the chain. It
determines the diagnostic quality of the digital stethoscope and ensures a familiar user
experience to those accustomed to acoustic stethoscopes.

The analog voltage needs to be conditioned and then converted into a digital signal
using an audio analog-to-digital converter (ADC) or audio codec. Some digital
stethoscopes have noise cancellation that requires a secondary sound transducer or
microphone to record the ambient noise so that it can be removed digitally. In this
approach, two audio ADCs are required.
AV300 Vein Viewing System

The EarlySense Proactive enables doctors and their medical staff to capture all a
patients vitals in the exam room. Everything from their heart rate to their respiratory
rate can be quickly captured and transferred to the EMR system. This not only reduces
the time of transferring patient’s room to room, but also reduces mistakes of recording
incorrect readings.

AccuVein, a company out of Cold Spring Harbor, New York, is releasing to market a
competitor to the popular VeinViewer from Luminetx. Both systems use infrared
imaging to see hemoglobin below the skin. Designed to be portable and battery
operated, the AccuVein AV300 can spot difficult to find IV sites for needle placement

Venipuncture, the process of obtaining intravenous access for the purpose or

intravenous therapy or obtaining a sample of venous blood, is the most common
invasive medical procedure. More than 2.7 million patients undergo venipuncture per
day in the US alone. Since accessing veins may be difficult in patients and can take up to
10 minutes and require multiple needle sticks, venipuncture has proven to be a main
source of patient anxiety and discomfort.

FOR COMMUNICATION

Voip phone system

A VoIP phone or IP phone uses voice over IP technologies for placing and
transmitting telephone calls over an IP network, such as the Internet, instead of the
traditional public switched telephone network (PSTN).

To enable the VoIP communications, the SIP/RTP packets should be utilised and STUN
client would be the key component for VoIP communications with management of the
SIP/RTP packets. A Session Traversal Utilities for NAT (STUN) client is used on some SIP-
based VoIP phones as firewalls on network interface sometimes block SIP/RTP packets.
Some special mechanism is required in this case to enable routing of SIP packets from
one network to other. STUN is used in some of the sip phones to enable the SIP/RTP
packets to cross boundaries of two different IP networks. A packet becomes unroutable
between two sip elements if one of the networks uses private IP address range and
other is in public IP address range. Stun is a mechanism to enable this border traversal.
There are alternate mechanisms for traversal of NAT, STUN is just one of them. STUN or
any other NAT traversal mechanism is not required when the two SIP phones connecting
are routable from each other and no firewall exists in between.
The Movi phone

The Movi phone is an Android device with a built-in projector

Wireless Mobi Solution, Inc. (WMS) is a privately held company founded in 2008. The
Company’s original mission and role was to provide wireless expertise to our enterprise
customers by developing wireless devices, software and infrastructure solutions, with a
longer term goal of developing its own proprietary innovative technology, mobile
devices and solutions.

The Movi Smartphone was born out of WMS’ years of diligent research and
development. WMS has evolved to include specializing, designing, developing and
manufacturing of high quality mobile technology, with the mantra of "better and
affordable wireless experiences" for consumers.
As smartphone screens have gotten larger, they’ve become our go -to
entertainment devices. But there are still many times in which you may want to
watch movies or TV shows on a much larger screen when a TV isn’t nearby. That’s
where the Movi smartphone comes in: The $599 Android phone includes an
integrated projector that can project 720p videos
5G smartphones and networks
While the speed of the 4G LTE networks available to U.S. consumers leave a lot to be
desired, industry groups and wireless carriers are already eyeing the transition to 5G
technology, which will likely be defined in 2018, codified in 2019, and deployed in 2020.
While the standards for the technology are still years away from being set, it’s safe to
say that 5G will be faster and less energy-intensive than 4G, which will bring faster
smartphones, better smart home devices, and longer-lasting wearables. 5G
smartphones will likely experience much lower latency than what we’re used to with
4G, which would mean faster-loading apps and websites, plus lightning-speed
downloads of videos. As Jessi Hempel reports for Wired, we’ll need 5G networks both to
make virtual reality useful in professional settings and to enable the sensors embedded
in everything from watches to cars to work together seamlessly with low latency

Wireless-home-intercom-system
Multi-purpose device featuring a great deal of options, including connection to Alexa
and any apps, audio and video calls, hands-free operation and voice control

is part of the Amazon Echo line of products. Similarly to other devices in the family, it is
designed around Amazon's virtual assistant Alexa, but additionally features a 7-inch
touchscreen display that can be used to display visual information to accompany its
responses, as well as play video and conduct video calls with other Echo Show users.
The video call feature was later expanded to include all Skype users.
The Echo Show was unveiled on May 9, 2017, and released in the United States on June
28, 2017.[2] It has received positive reviews, with critics noting its improved sound
quality over the standard Echo speaker, its simplicity, and how the screen is used to
supplement Alexa rather than act as a full-featured tablet, but noted that many third-
party Alexa functions had not been updated to fully utilize the screen.
A second generation of the Echo Show was unveiled at an Alexa-themed product event
by Amazon on September 20, 2018 for release the following month. [3] The new device
has a 10-inch touchscreen, improved speakers, and mesh casing
FOR TRANSPORTATION

The electric bicycle / electric folding bike

The electrically assisted bicycle has motivated many elderly to step back on the iron
horse. Wind, inclines, and the physical inconveniences that come with older age aren’t
obstacles anymore. Increased range allow commuters to leave the car at home while
they’re not arriving all sweaty and gasping for air at work.

RV dwellers tend to love e-bikes too. Often they choose for foldable e-bikes as they
don’t want to store their expensive bike on the bike rack where it’s more prone to
theft. Commuters may opt for foldable when public transportation is part of their route.

E-bikes come in all the variants normal bicycles come in. From ATB’s and
mountainbikes to racing bikes, tricycles, recumbent bikes, cargo bikes, and
those fat tire snow and beach bikes.
The electric unicycle (aka self-balancing unicycle)

Self-balancing electric unicycles belong to the most portable EPTDs. Their

large wheels allow for taking curbs and potholes as well as riding lawns,
dirt, and even gravel roads. They come in wheel sizes ranging typically
from 12″ up to 16″ but larger wheels exist too. High-end models are
generally safer than cheap no-name devices as they have more breaking
power and more powerful motors which can be crucial on bad roads.

Because of their limited size, weight, and footprint they make great vehicles
for various purposes. For instance to bridge the so called ‘last mile’ when
going to work. Also think about cruising campus, going shopping in the
inner city (simply pack your EUC in a backpack or drag it behind you with
the handle), commuting, or walking your way too energetic dog.
The electric moped scooter
Just like the traditional bicycle has gotten an electrical counterpart, there
are electrical moped scooters now too. Opting for a scooter means you can
take quite a bit of luggage such as groceries with you. Also taking a
passenger with you belongs to the possibilities which is something that’s
not possible on an electric longboard or unicycle.

Basically there are two types of electric scooters, electrical moped and
motor variants. Mopeds are often restricted to 30mph (equivalent to 50cc
petrol scooters) whereas the most powerful electric scooters are legally
perceived as motors. For both groups registration documents, number
plates, (and sometimes road tax) are required. The scooter on the photo
has pedals but these are merely so it’s classified as an electric bicycle.
The hoverboard (aka self-balancing scooter)
Just like the electric unicycle, the hoverboard, swegway, or self-balancing two-wheeled
board has built-in gyroscopic, sensored pads. Since most hoverboards lack the terrain
versatility of EUCs, their limited speed and range, and since learning to ride these is very
easy, they are very popular for indoor use and as kids toys.

Generally 6,5 inch wheel size is recommended for children. 8 Inch for teens and small
adults, and 10 inch for adults. A special type of hoverboard is the Segway miniPro self-
balancing personal transporter that features a padded knee bar for easier steering and a
relatively high top speed of 10 mph.

A well-reviewed model for all ages is the all-terrain EpikGo hoverboard.

E-jeep
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Friday, January 18
launched a new electric jeep (e-jeep) route from Makati to Mandaluyong.

Dubbed as "eSakay," the new e-jeeps were done in partnership with Meralco and the
city governments of Makati and Mandaluyong under the public utility vehicle
modernization program.

The e-jeeps are 100% electric and feature an automated fare collection system
through Beep, GPS tracking system, and CCTV cameras. It has free WiFi onboard and
USB ports.

It also has designated seats for senior citizens and persons with disability
FOR BUSINESS USE

Square Reader
As more and more consumers ditch cash for contactless and digital payments,
businesses of all sizes also need to adapt. Square has long been one of the most exciting
payments companies around today, and has now finally brought its Reader product to
the UK for the first time.
The product acts as a mobile POS, allowing customers to quickly pay for their items
using a contactless card, mobile or wearable device. Targeted predominatly at small
businesses or traders

The £39 reader weighs in at just 56g, meaning it can be handheld, or tethered to a till or
counter using an additional £19 dock, allowing for a truly mobile steup. Anyone signing
up to Square's service can get approval to start using the system within the hour, taking
much of the headache out of setting up a new payments platform, with Square’s own
software system offering a POS service as well as in-depth analytics.

The tool seems like an invaluable asset to any small business looking to grow or expand,
or any company looking for a more mobile setup. Perhaps our only gripe would be that
the device is potentially too compact, and could be lost - but asides from that, a Square
Reader could be the key to taking your business to the big time.

TP-Link M4750 Mobile Wi-Fi hotspot

A useful travel companion - if you can get your hands on it.

Another option for workers constantly on the go, the TP-Link M4750 offers download
speeds of up to 300Mbps, and 50Mbps. That's not enough to reliably stream high-
quality media or teleconferencing, but if you need to work on documents or other files,
the LTE Cat 6 network connection should be ideal.
Our tests found that the device was reliable in reaching these speeds, even in central
London, and more than enough to enjoy reliable connections whilst on the move. The
battery life for the device was excellent, lasting a full working day with ease, as TP-Link
says that the M4750 can offer up to 15 hours of juice, and recharging the huge
3000mAh battery is also quick and easy using the microUSB port.

The M4750 is also light and portable, being small enough to fit inside a jacket pocket,
and its rubber build will help protect from any accidental drops or bumps. Set up is
remarkably easy, requiring you to just insert the SIM card and turn on, making this much
more straightforward than other similar devices
Invoxia NVX200 desk phone
Which is why it is so surprising that few companies have come up with a product like the
Invoxia NVX200. In a nutshell, this £209 device converts/transforms your smartphone
into a desk phone with a Bluetooth speaker and a charging dock thrown in. It comes
with a bunch of connectors and adaptors to connect most smartphones.
Most Apple devices (including the iPod, iPad and iPhone) are supported, as are the
latest Android smartphones, thanks to a USB Type-C port. A clever adjustable stand
means that any device will sit snuggly on the NVX200. Connect the device via Bluetooth
to the latter, put your smartphone in place and you’re ready to go.

Hold down the voicemail key bring up the settings and you will be able to configure the
device to your taste, down to the ringtones. Outwardly, it looks just like a normal desk
phone, with lots of curves, a soft surface and a handset with a cable that’s sufficiently
long for the user to stand up. Setting it up is straight forward: connect the device to a
power socket, dock your smartphone, connect it to the NVX200 via Bluetooth and
you’re ready to go. We did encounter some issues though.

The test smartphone, a Sony Xperia Z3, has a micro USB port located on the side rather
than at the bottom of the device. To make matters worse, it is not anywhere near the
middle which makes it impossible to dock in landscape mode. Things got a bit more
complicated when you factor in the casing used to protect it.

Altogether a wireless solution, which integrates no-wires charging, might have been a
better solution but would have restricted its appeal. We couldn’t get the speaker to play
music wirelessly but it did somehow play music via the micro USB connector but only,
and only if Bluetooth is disconnected.
Immervox Multi SIM
Fed up with losing your connectivity when out and about? Then check out the Multivox
Multisim. It is a service that allows access to multiple UK mobile networks from a single
SIM card.

No need to swap tiny pieces of PCB or opt for a sub-optimal dual-SIM smartphone to
eliminate the issues associated with poor connectivity, especially when you are out and
about. The technology works on almost any recent smartphones and feature phones
and doesn’t need a dedicated app.

If there is no coverage on the primary access network, then your phone will search for
another available UK mobile network and if there is one available, it will connect to it. If
there are multiple networks available, then it will pick up and run on the network with
the strongest signal.

The Multisim works without having to manually select a different network to switch to
and you get to keep your phone number regardless of the network. The only caveat is
that a call will drop when the network being used loses coverage altogether; there is no
“incall” switching.

You get unlimited UK calls to mobiles and landlines as well as unlimited texts, all
courtesy of EE’s network. Four data packages are available, ranging from 2GB
Logitech Spotlight Presentation Remote

The new product offers a stylish minimalist design made out of polished metal, weighing
in at just 49g, with the slim build meaning it sits nicely in the palm of your hand. Three
programmable buttons on the front giving you the opportunity to control your
presentation however you like. The remote is able to highlight and magnify certain areas
on screen, allowing you to focus on specific items or points, and has a range of up to 30
metres for those grander presenting occasions, connecting via Bluetooth to your
Windows, Mac OS, Chrome OS or Android device.

It even comes with a timer, which can show how long you've been speaking for and
vibrate to tell you if you're about to run over your allotted presentation time. Battery
life is substantial enough to last you through a working day, and is quickly recharged.

FOR EDUCATION USE

Digital textbooks
Digital textbooks are becoming more crucial as some schools are cutting back on
expensive physical textbooks. Some schools are going beyond adopting a new format
for education texts.
In 2009, the state of California began replacing some high-school textbookswith “open-
source” digital books. And digital textbook provider Boundless estimates students
at half of the United States’ universities have used their free digital textbooks.
Initially, digital textbooks were simply the old textbooks in digital form. Nowadays, the
digital versions are starting to look more like online databases or programs than their
paper predecessors.
OS Cubes
Teachers it is time to change to teach your students new ways of solving math
problems. For a while we have been stack with an old thinking that there is only one
way of solving math equations. This OS Cube will present your students with various
solutions to any equation. These OS Cubes are challenging if you start using them, but
once you master the trick behind these math cubes, you will enjoy solving math
equations in a creative manner. OS Cubes can be used by both teachers and students.

The OS Cubes were initially created as part of my Universal Problem Solving system. The

Smartboards
It can be connected to one or more laptops, PCs, tablets, or other electronic devices.

They are extremely useful in a classroom because they can engage students, provide
interactive opportunities that a traditional white board, black board or flip chart can't,
and can also develop students' computer skills along with their English skills.
Smart boards also have touch screen technology so you do not actually need a
computer to access the basic functionality.
First, you can write on it.

You will need special pens, which are usually provided with the board.
Anything written on the board can then be saved for future reference, or printed out.
This is great if you are doing an exercise with your class and you want everyone to be
able to see the answers during the checking stage.
You can run PowerPoint presentations on an interactive white board.

These can sometimes be great for grammar or vocabularypresentations and the beauty
of them is that once you've made the presentation you can save it and use it over again.
If you have internet access, you can access internet sites and put them onto a white
board. This is great in an EFL classroom if you have online quizzes or games you want
the students to use.

They can actually come up to the board and select their answers. This involves them
directly in the board work, which they usually love. Teenagers, in particular, seem to
love doing this.

PAPERTAB
PaperTab Is a Tablet as Thin and Flexible as PaperAre tablets of today too fat and clunky
for you? Meet PaperTab, a 10.7-inch tablet that's almost as thin — and flexible — as a
sheet of paper.
Developed by Plastic Logic, PaperTab has a flexible touchscreen that lets users send files
and emails and navigate through pages of documents using hand gestures. One can also
combine several PaperTabs into one larger surface by placing them side by side, or share
files by touching one tablet to another.

PaperTab is powered by an Intel i5 processor, which seems to be separate from the

actual display and connected to the PaperTab with a thin data cable. We're unsure if this
is the way the device is planned to work when finalized or it's just a prototype. We'll find
out pretty soon, as Plastic Logic plans to reveal PaperTab to the press Tuesday at CES
2013."Plastic Logic's flexible plastic displays are completely transformational in terms of
product interaction. They allow a natural human interaction with electronic paper, being
lighter, thinner and more robust compared with todays standard glass-based displays,"
says Indro Mukerjee, CEO of Plastic Logic.

The development of Paper Tab

The developers claim the Paper Tab system can replace traditional paper and computer
monitors with its facile and interactive plastic sheets. Where screens are concerned,
apparently, the future remains flexible.
Paper Tabs bend the right side of the display to page forward and the left side to page
backward. And while it feels like this might be easier to master in theory than in
practice, the show in the video demo make it look pretty simple.
While its “tablet” billing, the PlasticTab is still just a screen, not a full-scale computer.
People have to connect the screen to a processor via a series of unwieldy cables. In
videos, the display also looks a little splotchy - not unlike an Etch-a-Sketch-though
