THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

INTRODUCTON

Bed making is one of the important techniques to prepare various types of bed for guest to

ensure comfort and useful position for a particular condition.

The bed is especially important for clients who are tired. The housekeeper plays inevitable

role to ensure comfort and cleanliness for customers.

Bed-making is an art. The purpose of the bed-making should be guests or clients-centered.

The main purposes of bed-making are to prevent complications by ensuring comfort and

Security to costumers.

Skillful bed making contributes comfort. Some basic principles of bed-making are; it is important to

learn that how to make a bed in such a way where least amount of energy and time is required, keep

everything ready on bed side before starting bed-making, it should have a finished appearance.

Here are some purpose of Bed make up; to conserve the client's energy and maintain current healthy

status, to promote the client's comfort, to provide a clean near environment for the client,

t o p r o v i d e a s m o o t h , t h u s m i n i m i z i n g s o u r c e s o f s k i n irritation.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Beds must sometimes be made to exacting standards, demanded of nurses or military personnel. In

a hospital or other health-care environment, beds must sometimes be made while occupied by a

patient. Specialized techniques are taught to healthcare staff to enable beds to be made efficiently

with due care for the patient.

There are different bed-making techniques, such as "hospital corners" and "mitered corners". Military

recruits are often taught how to make a neat and tidy bed with hospital corners. Military personnel are

expected to fold the bed very tightly, in some cases so that a coin can bounce off of it

Since 2012, many self-making beds which automatically rearrange the bedding are in development

and in use. New innovations in bedding have arisen in recent years (beginning in 2014) that have

further simplified bed-making—some claiming that zipper beds can be made in under 10 seconds.

Guinness World Records reports that the record time for two people to make a bed "with one blanket,

two sheets, an under sheet, an uncased pillow, one pillowcase, one counterpane and hospital

corners" is 14.0 seconds. This feat was achieved by two nurses from the Royal Masonic Hospital in

London in 1993.
In 2008, inventor Enrico Berruti featured his self-making bed, dubbed "Selfy", at The International

Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva, Switzerland. The bed makes itself by stretching and smoothing the

sheets over the mattress by using metal rails that connect to the bed sheets alongside the bed.

In June 2012, Dvice.com reported that Spanish furniture company OHEA had developed a self-

making bed, which would rearrange the bedding in 50 seconds at the press of a button. The bed can

be either set to automatic mode, which means that the bed will remake itself three seconds after the

user gets up, or to manual model, which means the user has to touch a button in order for the device

to start. The bed isn't compatible with normal blankets, pillows or duvets, so customers need to buy

special bedding that works with the device. In 2016, the bed recirculated on social media and

the Daily Mail noted that some people love the bed whilst others think it's just lazy.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study tackles about Impact of Improper bed make up which focusses on the Housekeeping

students of HSU.

1) What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:

1.1 name (optional)

1.2 age

1.3 grade and section

1.4 gender

2) What is Bed make up?

3) What are the effects of improper bed make up service?

4) What is the cause of improper bed make up?

5) What is the strategies to avoid bed make up service?

HYPOTHESIS

Major hotels and corporates are relying more and more on Bloom field hotel professional

housekeeping service providers to caters to their needs. And the reason of the Bloom field hotel in

housekeeping department and its impact on housekeeping.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The following will benefits from the result of the study.

The Hotel.

Hotel are increasingly opting for Bloom field and contract service to sustain cost effective

housekeeping operations and to ensure that the resources and assets of the property are utilized to.

The Housekeeper.

The respondents are from the exclusive housekeeper up to the associates categories of the

housekeeping department. It has been observed that Bloomfield is most practiced among the hotel

chain to sustain cost effectiveness, improves service quality and improves efficiency of department.
SCOPE AND DELIMITATIONS

The researchers limited this research to HSU students and only for specific time on the indicated time

which is on the first week of March. This study focused on the Impact of Improper bed make up. This

study will conduct in the campus of HSU-UMAK. The HSU-UMAK. The HSU Grade 11 Housekeeping

student will be the participants of the study.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

 Bed Making: The technique of preparing different types of bed making patients / clients

comfortable in his/ her suitable position for a particular condition.

 Comfort: A feeling pf ease from grief or trouble.

 Delimit: To mark the limits

 Efficiency: The ability to do something or product something without wasting materials.

 Impact: To have a strong and often bad effect on (something or someone).

 Improper: Not appropriate for a particular occasion or situation.

 Mitered corner: Method of folding the bed clothes at the corners to secure them

in place while the bed is occupied.

 CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter presents literatures and studies that were considered relevant to this study.

Bed-making (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/bed-making) is the act of arranging the bed sheets and

other bedding on a bed, to prepare it for use. It is a household chore, but is also performed in

establishments including hospitals, hotels, and military or educational residences. Bed-making is also

a common childhood chore. In additional bed making may appear to be mundane and for some, even

useless, it is important and is almost an industry in itself. Many residential institutions, military as well

as the travel industry take the matter seriously and to some extent, their bed making practices even

helps to define who they are and what they represent in society.

As per Shirley L, Singapore, (10July2017), slightly below expectations for a 5star resort. Bedding was

not changed even after she placed the request card. Housekeeping needs to be more attentive.

By Milt. Summerville (30Oct2012), the hotel industry knows the importance of having beautiful beds

and they not just make beds, housekeeping staff is trained to create works of art by making figures or
images from towels, flowers or from

materials native to the area to enhance

the beauty of the bedroom. It is

usually an applied added artwork to help transform and renew the appearance of the room each day.

They remind me of the way mother made the beds in my younger years but with the exception of the

added touches from the now trained housekeeping staff.

Most people ‘love their bed’ at home, therefore Housekeeping staff have a responsibility to ensure

that the way the bed looks gives guests an impression that care has been taken and the way the bed

is made contributes to a comfortable night’s sleep.

Bed making goes beyond the commercial aspect as seen in the hotels and resorts around the

world. It applies to basic domestic rules of living even though it not necessarily adhered to by

everyone. Teenagers for one usually are the exception when it comes to making their

beds. Amongst the first pieces of advice a realtor will offer his client who is getting the house ready

for the market deals with un-cluttering and further that each day the beds should be refreshed and

made. Many prospective buyers will make a judgment about the house by simply observing the

housekeeping aspect.

Having beautiful bed sheets and accessories is an important part of beautiful bed making. It can be

assumed that if someone makes the effort to acquire good quality bed covers, they will also take the

time to make the beds each day, because it is the means of demonstrating and appreciating the

investment. It exhibits a degree of taste, comfort and pride in the home setting, attributes that lead

towards peaceful sleep and rest.

SYNTHESIS

METHODOLOGY

This chapter discuss the Research Design, Research Locale, Population and Sampling, Research

Instrument, Data Gathering Procedure, Data Analysis.

RESEARCH DESIGN

This study used the Qualitative Descriptive checklist method from Grade 11 Housekeeping student of

Higher School ng UMAK, 2nd semester A.Y. 2017-2018 about Impact of Improper bed make up

service. Qualitative Research is a method inquiry employed in many different academic disciplines.

The study made us a three-page checklist consisting 9 items.

RESEARCH LOCALE
The University of Makati traces its

roots from Makati Polytechnic Community College, which was founded in 1972. Due to the growing

number of curricular offerings, its status was elevated to a full-fledged college in 1987, and was

renamed as Makati College. Three years later, it was merged with the former Fort Andres Bonifacio

College on Janu10, 1990. -

By virtue of Municipal Ordinance No. 433, the Pamantasan ng Makati became a chartered university

on December 19, 1991 under the administration of Mayor Jejomar C. Binay. On August 27, 2002, City

Ordinance 2002-111 was approved amending City Ordinance No. 99-443 to revise the Pamantasan

ng Makati Charter. The official name of Pamantasan ng Makati was then changed to University of

Makati.

POPULATION AND SAMPLING TECHNIQUES

This study used purposive convenience sampling procedure wherein a sample selected based on

characteristics of a population and the objective of this study.

The sampling techniques is appropriate because the researchers involved respondents from Grade

11 Housekeeping student whose qualifications are suited for the needs of this research study.
The study involved (1) public senior

high school, 367 Grade 11

school. The 20% students from the total population were selected.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

To completely achieve the aim of this research, us, the researchers used a survey checklist

questionnaire as a research tool. It is composed of our respondents profile or details such as name,

section, age and gender. The second part of the questionnaire is composed of question that talk

about Impact of Improper bed make up. The third part of the questionnaire is composed of question

that talk about the strategies to avoid the improper bed make up. Aside from the knowledge of the

researchers about the said topic. We can also gain information by conducting a survey among Grade

11 Housekeeping students of HSU-UMAK.

DATA ANALYSIS
The gather data will be interpret and analyze. The researcher will collect all the data gather and will

tally the answer of the Grade 11 Housekeeping students. The research will construct a coding using a

numerical code to identify specific piece of data, which corresponds specifics question on this

research.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

1) The researchers should create the research instrument that will be used in the study. 2) It

presented to the professor for approval. Suggested changes in the instrument were incorporated. 3)

The research instrument that will be used in the survey questionnaire. 4) The Professor in charge

should make a request letter to the dean in Higher School ng UMAK to know the population of

Housekeeping students. 5) After the approval of the request letter, the researcher will start conducting

a survey on the selected respondents.
