1. Name / Title of the Project :
VLSI Design of ATM (automatic teller machine) controller.

2. Problem Statement
The early ATM uses a paper vouchers printed with radioactive ink so that the ATM
machine can read it. That was not so effective and secured So we are using a silicon card
with a smart (metallic) chip which consists of account number ,account type, account
holder details ,etc; With this we can do our banking transactions very easily and with
high security.
3. Why is the particular topic chosen?
Now a day’s time and security is very crucial to everyone. The ATM machine provides
us high security and saves our time. We don’t need to stand in big lines in banks to
perform our bank transactions. By ATM’s use we can have our bank transactions with
great security and without any error.
4. Objective and scope of the project
The objective of this project is to provide the 24/7 service to the bank customers. It
reduces risk to account holders. ATM’s also reduces the work load to the bank staff.
ATM’s provides the service without any errors. There is no human error. It also provides
the transactions with good security

5. Methodology
Automated Teller Machines has given rise to 24-hour banking and a greater variety of
services for the customer. This method uses a computer to transfer debits and credits,
with the help of
Electronic pulses, which are carried through wires either to a magnetic disk or tape. ATM
(Automated
Teller Machine) has become an important part in our daily lives. People use ATM for
various purposes
such as money withdrawal, checking balance, changing password etc. Since it mainly
deals with people's
money, it has to be a secure system on which we can rely. We have taken a step towards
increasing this
security and integrity by trying to implement the functioning of an ATM using VLSI-
based programming,
HDL (Hardware Description Language). The conventional coding languages such as
C,C++ are replaced
by VHDL (Very High Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language) so that
the code cannot be
easily hacked or changed. This article consists of an insight into the various functions that
can be
performed using an ATM, a brief description of the Coding and the obtained simulation
results. It also
consists of the implementation of the code using FPGA Kit . In this work the
development of a Moore machine state diagram of an ATM controller. The developed
design will be modeled using Verilog HDL language which is a Hardware Description
Language (HDL) used to describe a digital system. The verification of developed model
will be made by identifying the suitable test cases in a test bench. The simulation will be
carried out using Modelsim tool and the intended functionality can be verified with the
help of its simulation results and also it can be synthesized using the Xilinx tool.

6. Hardware & Software to be used

Software: Xilinx – synthesis
Modelsim – simulation
Hardware: field programmable gate array (FPGA)
7. Testing Technologies used
Modelsim
8. What contribution would the project make?
This project i.e. ATM provides 24/7 service to bank customers. Bank transactions are
made easy. The time required for transactions are drastically decreases. It also reduces
work load to bank staff. ATM gives convenience to the bank customers to have their
transactions. ATM also provides the error free transactions with great security and
privacy.
