Overview

These are the instruction on what to consider in your work.

The goal of the final paper is for you to consider the relations between designed objects of the
past, present, and future (it means showing how technology has improved from past to the
present and then how is it expected to be in future.). Begin by selecting a designed object from
the present (not your own design). This may be a re-issue of an older design, but it should still be
in circulation/on the market and functional today. Next, research and reflect on possible sources
of inspiration for this object and choose one past object (designed before the present object) that
you believe inspired the present object. The past object need not be the same kind of object (as in
the example discussed in class of the Centre Pompidou inspiring Tinker Hatfield’s Nike Air Max
1), and the relations between the two may be formal, structural, conceptual, and/or abstract.
Finally, design your own rendition of the present object for the year 2048 (30 years into the
future). Your future object should improve upon the present object and/or adapt it to the future
(i.e., by making it more useful/attuned to future societies/environments/needs/desires). Write a
brief 2-3-page essay discussing your objects of the past, present, and future. The essay should
summarize the objects’ intended functions, primary design features, and (positive and/or
negative) qualities, highlight the past and present objects’ connections, and explain the
improvements/adaptations of your designed object. Illustrate your essay with up to three pages of
images representing the past, present, and future objects. The image(s) of the future object should
be your own design, and may be rendered in any media you choose (e.g., pen, pencil, markers,
computer software).

You just think of one area where technology has shown advancement and how the future is
expected to be. You can consider the chariots used by colonizers, then they advanced to steam
vehicles with ugly shapes, then nowadays we have the modern cars using petrol and in future
were expecting solar driven vehicles. To get the images just u can google i.e chariots used in
colonial period then near the menu bar above instead of all click images. Itakuletea izo images
then unacopy paste ynye unataka. Just see the one I did.
