This study aims to increase bandwidth microstrip antenna. Researchers used a
microstrip antenna with the addition of multi u-slot with working frequency 27-29
GHz. Research conducted at the Laboratory of Telecommunications Faculty of
Engineering, State University of Jakarta and Telecommunication Equipment
Testing Center, Bekasi in January - July 2019

Tests on slot microstrip antenna is done in two stages, namely during the simulation
and measurement after fabrication. There are two antennas at the simulation stage,
the conventional microstrip antenna as criteria microstrip antenna bandwidth and
with the addition of multi U-Slot as a measure of the increased bandwidth of
conventional microstrip antenna. At this stage of fabrication of the antenna there is
a microstrip antenna with the addition of multi u-slot as a benchmark approach of
antenna performance simulation results. The simulation was performed using the
software CST Microwave Studio Suite 2016 and an antenna that has been fabricated
measured by the b elp Network Analyzer.

Microstrip antenna dimension with the addition of multi-slot u is obtained from the
simulation calculation and optimization on CST Microwave Studio 2016.
Fabrication of the microstrip antenna using Duroid RT 5880 material with a
dielectric constant (at 2.2. The antenna with dimensions of 20 × 30 mm operating
at frequency of 28 GHz with a return loss value -19.59 dB and -19.62 dB, VSWR
1233, gain of 11.1 dB and a bandwidth of 3.31 GHz in the simulation test results.εr )

Microstrip antenna measurement results with additional multi-slot u shows that the
antenna can work at a frequency of 28 GHz with a bandwidth of 3.5 GHz, 20 dB
Return Loss and VSWR of 1.15 dB. The addition of multi u-slot on the microstrip
antenna has a positive effect, because the slots are coupling effects that affect the Q
factor at an antenna and the value of the Q factor inversely proportional to the
bandwidth generated. So that the antennas are made to meet the huge bandwidth
requirements using microstrip antenna device.
