BEST PRACTICES
English- Grade 7
 Recitation Chips
One of the best practices I do in my class is giving recitation chips to the learners who
answer corrrectly. It aims to motivate learners to always participate during class
discussion.

 Bidding of Recitation Chips for HOTS questions

I offer higher number of recitation chips (3-20 chips) in the higher order thinking skills
questions and those questions that are quite hard to answer and require the students
to elaborate and give more explanations.

 Help Lines (Call a friend, call a seatmate, call a crush, call a boy, call a girl,
call an officer, call a cleaner)
If the called student isn’t able to answer or is taking too long to answer I offer them
help lines. Either I give the specific help line or the students are the ones to choose who
to call.
 VOCABULARY WORD A DAY (1st Quarter- Stargazer Lily)
Vocabulary Word
Pronunciation
Part of Speech
Sentence
I allot 3-5 minutes time before each session for the vocabulary word a day. One
vocabulary word for every student and one student to present every meeting. Each
learner presents a vocabulary word with its pronunciation, part of speech, meaning, and
example sentence. It aims to boost the students’ confidence in speaking in front of the
class and to widen the students’ vocabulary.

 A QUOTATION A DAY (2nd Quarter- Stargazer Lily)

At the first day of second quarter each student picks a quotation and a date of
presentation. Each student is tasked to write / make a visual of the quote. The presenter
of the day must read and explain the quotation. It aims to develop the skills of the
students to comprehend and speak in English.

 YOU ARE ON THE SPOT (3rd Quarter- Stargazer Lily)

I allot 3-5 minutes time before each session to give way for the you are on the
spot activity. I draw lots a student each day. The student on the spot sits at the center
and 5 of his/her classmates can ask 1-2 questions. The student on-the-spot is required to
answer the questions in complete sentences. It aims to enhance student’s skills to
construct sentences and to develop skills in answering on the spot questions.
