At the end of the lesson the students are able to:

a. identify the different propaganda techniques (bandwagon, plain folks, testimonial, name calling, and
card stacking);
b. determine the importance of propaganda techniques in consumer response; and
c. apply a propaganda technique in promoting a product.

2. Motivation
The class will be divided into four groups. The members of each group will assign a member to
present their output in the class. Each group shall prepare 1 sheet of paper and the paper will serve as the
answer sheet. The task of each group is to guess the name of television commercial based on the tagline
that will be flashed on the screen. The students will have 3 minutes to answer.

B. LESSON DEVELOPMENT
The teacher will discuss the definition of propaganda techniques and the types of propaganda
techniques.
What is Propaganda?
It is a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitudes, perspectives and
emotions of people or communities toward some cause or position by presenting only one side of an
argument. It is usually repeated and presented over a wide variety of media in order to attract the
interests of a greater majority.
Types of Propaganda Techniques.
There are a number of ways and/or techniques on how to persuade people to buy products,
accept ideas, and avail services.
1. Bandwagon - you are attracted and convinced to use a product or join an activity because
“everyone” is doing it.

2. Plain Folks - It uses ordinary people as endorsers to show that the product is being used by usual
persons.

3. Testimonial - a famous person or celebrity endorses the product to give testimony and influence the
people.

4. Name Calling - a technique that persuades you to avail the product or service because of the
negative image it crates against another product or service.

5. Card Stacking – this is a technique that shows the product’s best features, tells half-truths, and
omits its potential problems.

C. GENERALIZATION
The learners will be asked what they have learned from the lesson. The teacher will solicit answer from
the learners.

3. Give an example of types of propaganda techniques.
D. APPLICATION
Directions: The students will use the same groupings in the first activity. Each group will think of a product that
is locally produced (fruits, vegetables, crochets, etc.) that they may want to promote. They will promote the
chosen local product based on the propaganda technique that they will pick. They will be given 5 minutes to
prepare and 2 minutes each to present their output. They will be graded based on the given criteria below:

propaganda techniques that are being discussed. What propaganda technique you might want to use in
promoting your chosen product? Explain and expound your answer in 2-3 sentences.
