I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the students are able to:

a. define economic issues;


b. listen to a video clip and answer comprehensive questions orally; and
c. compose a song about economic issues.

The teacher will ask the students about the following:
1. What moral issue?
2. Give an example of moral issue.

The teacher will flash several images and the students will answer whether the pictures that is
being shown on the screen is “needs” or “wants”.

B. LESSON DEVELOPMENT
The teacher will discuss the definition of economic, and economic issues and will give examples
of it.

ECONOMIC is the production, distribution, and use of income, wealth, and commodities.

ECONOMIC ISSUES are situations that reflect the scarcity of resources which are deemed insufficient
to satisfy human wants and needs.

An issue becomes an economic issue under the following circumstances:

 It involves inflation or the increase of price of basic commodities and services affecting a
large number of people.
 It involves an increase of unemployment or not having a job to earn ones living.
 It involves poverty caused by underlying factors such as lack of education, cultural and
religious discrimination, overpopulation, unemployment and corruption.

C. GENERALIZATION
The learners will be asked what they have learned from the lesson. The teacher will solicit answer
from the learners.

The teacher will ask the following questions:


 What is an issue?
 What is economic issue?
 State or give an example of economic issue and explain how can you contribute to help the society.

D. APPLICATION
The teacher will play a video about poverty and the students must listen and watch it carefully
because the teacher will randomly call a name of the students and will ask about their understanding
from the video that they’ve watched by asking questions about it.
Directions: Listen carefully to a video talking about poverty and answer the following questions orally.

1. According from the video that you’ve watched, how does poverty affect the economy?
2. What can you do to end poverty right now in your own city?
3. Why do you think it is so hard to escape poverty?

IV. EVALUATION
The teacher will group the students into four, and each group will compose a short song about
poverty being an economic issue. They will be given 15 minutes to prepare and compose their own
song, and 2 minutes each group to present their performance in the class.
Direction: Compose a short song about poverty as an economic issue. You will be given 15 minutes to
prepare and 2 minutes each group to present your performance.
